Sanding tip from LeNae: If you don't have a sanding block, an emery board makes a wonderful tool for sanding brads, monograms, the edge of a paper or metal embellishments.

Don't forget if you have a better half snitching a piece of his fine grade sanding paper out of the garage. It will work too!

I was cutting out a lot of easter eggs yesterday and some were a little rough around the edges. (I have arthritis in my hands, so sometimes my cutting is not smooth) So, I used one of my sanding blocks and went around the edges and the eggs looked perfect. No rough spots/edges.

i got a sanding block only 3 days ago in a gorgeous purple tone ... almost lilac one might say :p
anyway ..... due to lack of time to myself since, i havent tried it yet but i cant wait. it will be a great new technique to try but i have to say roughing up my gorgeous papers seems a bit of a 'sin' but i do love the look it gives so i shall 'sin away' and give my crafty projects a whole new look in the future.
happy crafting all ;)

Sanding the edges of the cardstock that has a white core (or even the black cardstock that has the really cool colored core) really makes the edges of your photo mats and paper pop.

I have sheets of sandpaper, but using an emery board helps to get into small spaces.
I bought a package of 3 dozen (different sizes and colors) at the dollar store.
I haven't distressed paper very often, but when I do it's fun. It was intimidating at first to crumple and then sand my glimmer paper, but it turned out with a cool distressed look (it was the bronze glimmer paper so the black core peeked through)!

I had to purchase a sanding block for some training that I did a year ago. I love it, but OMGosh.....it has this dreadful "workshop" smell about it. It literally makes my eyes water. I believe it comes from the materials that it is made out of. Any ideas on how to make it a little more "nose friendly"?

Wonder if when you stored it you wrapped a new nice-smelling dryer sheet around it?

Great idea, Heather! I'll give that a try. I need to do something. I swear that I feel faint if I use it for too long, LOL!

I, too, love to sand cardstock with a white core. I used the sanding technique on the textured cardstock layer of my Christmas card and it gave it a nice vintage look.

I use an emery board to do any sanding. It gets into little places so much easier than a block. ~Sandra :)

Or maybe you could use some room freshener on it. Like Fabreeze?:)
