Hey guys I was wondering if any of you can help me, my uncle passed away recently and I have an idea for a sort of scrapbook page but I want to frame it & hang it up when I'm finished. Have any of you done one before & are there any special things I should be doing? He was never fond of getting his photo taken & I have a few that are special but I want something more than just sticking them in a frame.

Do you have anything that belonged to him that you can add to the frame? Since you don't need to worry as much about it being flat, it's always interesting to include memorabilia in the frames....

Sorry to hear about your uncle - sounds like a great way to remember him.

I like Nancy's idea of adding a few of his things with the photos. You might want to try blocking certain areas for special things he liked. It may take a bit bigger frame but you'd have a truly wonder remembrance of him. Judi

you could do some special journaling too, since you'll be displaying it on the wall - something easily readable that tells a bit of his life! I'm sorry to hear about your uncle though!

Did he have any hobbies or collections? Perhaps a photo or two of them as well....
or of his home, car, workplace, etc. Anything that would connect you more closely to him.
Maybe make it like a collage.... with his photo on the center.

Supermum/Michelle:

Sorry about your uncle's passing. I had an uncle by marriage that died on July 4th and have a CD copy from my cousin who put together 20 minutes worth of his photos. Many of them are in a chronological order, but not all; but still brought make so many memories. I haven't done anything yet though. The other gals have all given great starter ideas. I was thinking if he was in the military or had a life-long hobby or if there was a favorite activity that you two did together, that one of these could be your focus or theme. Good luck with the project!

Rebexie sorry to hear about your uncle, the idea of cd full of photos would be great for my siblings. Thanks girls for all your help & sympathy, I'm now thinking that I might make 2 & give one to my Dad for Christmas. That will make me get my act together & not put it on the long finger. Connie I had a sort of collage theme in mind...as he was in the Irish Army, drove a red double decker bus in London, worked on oil rigs in Saudi Arabia, drove lorries all over Europe and finally settled down to be a farmer in Ireland while helping locals lads with their rally cars!! I think I'll need more than one frame.

Michelle, I'm so sorry for your loss.

I did something similar a few years ago. Took a pic of my dad, along with some other things and put it in a scrapbooking frame as a Christmas gift for all of my brothers and sisters.

As I was reading your last post, I couldn't help but think what an amazing life your uncle lived and thought how nice it will be that you should be able to find all kinds of stickers, etc. to help you out with his page. I can picture a mini Irish flag, a layered sticker of a London bus, etc. I hope when you finish it, you'll post a picture.

Michelle,
So Sorry for your loss. After reading your question the first thing that popped into my head was the "shadow box" That someone made for my wedding 31 yrs ago. you could use the Printers tray on the PWs catalog. That way you could add memorabilia and your stamps or what have you. Will look forward to seeing pics when your done. God Bless.:)

Michelle, what an interesting life your uncle had. I would love to have sat & listened to his stories. I love listening to the stories people tell of their adventures. I'd love to see the memory picture when you have it done. Judi

Avonlady94: what a wonderful keepsake!

Supermum: your uncle sounds like he had a very adventurous, very full life! Your loved ones will be deeply touched when you present their keepsakes. Can't wait to see what you create as your remembrance.

Great idea Supermum and I'm so sorry about your uncle's passing. Avonlady94 that's a gorgeous frame.

It's not really about the military but I thought I would show you what Vince has created putting both families pictures in a frame that is proudly on display in our living room.

Fab: I like how Vince added the decorative papers to certain sections. I think it helps the eyes to rest and then also makes those photos he selected to put in appear very special.

Tell Vince great job Fab - I love the way he's used both color and b/w photos - or at least they look b/w...how many generations are represented in the framed work...and it covers both your & Vince's families, right?
