~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is the CARD SWAP CALL to participate in the April Card Swap. April’s theme will be to make an Anniversary card using the “grid tile” technique on the cover of your card. (Line up your cardstock diagonally with a score line on your scoring board (so the point on top and point on bottom are on the same line). Score the card stock at even intervals. Turn your card stock 90 degrees, line up again, and score again to create a scored grid.) Now you have a grid tile background which you can decorate/embellish as you wish.
As always, make sure the majority of what you use comes from PW. To sign up for this swap, please send a PM (Private Message) to Swaps Albums no later than March 31 with "April Card Swap" in the subject line.
You may sign up to participate in this swap until the 31st of March. The partner list will be added to this thread shortly after that, and you will have until April 30 to send your completed project to your swap partner.
As a heads up for future swaps, here are the upcoming swap themes. Note that separate swap call messages will be posted and you will sign up for these on those swap calls each month as usual. This is just to give you an idea of what is coming, so that you can start working on your project or in case you want to order something special from PW to use to complete your project.
May – May’s card swap will let you pick your own kind of card, but it needs to be a STAINED GLASS card, where you stamp the cover image on clear acetate and apply glitter or stickles or a similar product to the back of the image to create a stained glass effect.
June – June’s card swap will be to make a card using Papier Tole (http://www.paperwishes.com/scripts/relevance_search.php?query=PAPIER+TOLE&project_search=0).
July - In July, the card swap will be to make a pop-up card, any kind!
SamB: will you post one or two examples of cards made with the grid technique?
Here is a link I found on Splitcoast Stampers about this technique:
Kim, I'm so thankful you like it :) Dogwoods hold a very, very special place in my heart. My hometown, Paducah, KY (home of the AQS Quilt Show) has an annual Dogwood Trail through the city and my wonderful late Grandfather planted many of the trees in our old neighborhood. I think about him so much during this time of year :) The Dogwoods are blooming, as are the Azaleas and other spring flowers... everything is turning green and blooming... I love it!!!! I just hope the recent storms have not blown to many of the Dogwood blooms off. The quilters will be arriving in our city this week and they love them!!
Happy Spring & Dogwood season everyone!!!
To Dizzy/Kim: THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Your beautifully made anniversary card arrived this morning. It was neat for me to see your technique first before checking on the thread to see others that had been recently posted. I'm in awe of yours, Nancy's, and Nanag's!! Everything about your card is outstanding! (paper selections, pearls, stamping, inked edges, grid techniques, layout styling,...) Love it!!
To every MB reader: please look closely at both photos to see how Kim used the embossed side of the grid technique 2 different ways (one on cover and one on the inside):
No sorry that was not a card kit. I know we are to use most of paperwishes products but the only things from PW was the stamp, and the front saying with the birds is from the card greeting CD from PW. so i stamped the flowers and scored the background and the tan background and used a boarder punch i got from Martha Stewert at HSN.
Nanag:
I'm so jealous you have a quilt show where you live every year. I love quilts and I make them too (when I feel inspired), but the art and appreciation of it has died down here in Miami like other crafts. We used to have a quilt show but it stopped coming around a few years ago. Just not enough interested people I guess to justify holding it.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have had the most wonderful "first card swap" experience ever!!
Blessings!
ditto what Fab said...the most fun thing about any of the swaps/challenges to me at least is to see all the different takes everyone comes up with for the same theme or idea...the ideas amaze me every single time!
Thanks y'all! I was definitely in the yellow and blue color combo mojo for several weeks! Here are my photo scans of the extras I sent Patti. Photos include a baby shower card cover and inside and a separate baby theme tag. Notice carefully at the grid on the umbrella. I didn't do the traditional grid pattern. I did a scalloped overlapping grid pattern with the help of an old stencil template. The heart on the tag (used as the background mount for the quilted heart) has the traditional grid scoring pattern.
What do you think?
hey, Patti, no problem! I try to always scan and save into my computer before I get an item ready for mailing. Thanks for all the comments! It was interesting to apply the "shapes"/cut-outs with the gridding. Just another way to tweak a technique to make it unique!!!! :)
