Has anyone ever scrapped using long 12x4 photos? I'm making a scrapbook for my mother-in-law's retirement party of the cross country trip she took with a friend. She has GREAT photos, half of which are the long ones. She really loves those pics and I don't want to cut them. I really want to use her pics as they are.
any suggestions or samples of using these photos?

Wow! Never even heard of pics that size. I have not a clue, but will be interested in hearing what others say. Would have loved to have been able to take pics that size on my trip in February when my Dad, my 15-year old son and I went t Isreal and Egypt. That would have been really cool!

The pics may be 11x5 (I took a rough measurement)...I'm not sure if she took the pics that way or developed them in that size. I know that PW sells albums in 11x5, but I wanted to make them pages.

Are these the pics that are "panorama" size, the ones that were so popular when the ill-fated APS cameras first came out?

I still have a wonderful APS camera and I take quite a few of these panaroma pictures. Especially of landscapes when I play tourist and it also comes in handy at reunions---getting large crowds in the picture.
Scrapping these photos are not hard. If you line up 2 vertical (regular) photos (one under the other)or 3 horizontal 4x4" photos it would equal the same space as one panaroma. Because of the nature of these photos they demand a lot of attention on the page so I go easy with other photos and embellishments. I have treated them as a wonderful border down the side of a page (if it is vertical), or as an anchor under a large title at the top.
Don't be intimidated---GO FOR IT! Your way is the right way!!

Yes, they are the panorama pics.
Thanks for the advice & encouragement Oldma...I'm going for it. I have some ideas, but sometimes, it's nice to see samples. I'll post my pages as I do them for advice and suggestions...it will be an ongoing project until the retirement party in September.

Hi Cathy. Your album plans sound intriguing. Yes, I have used 4 x 12's but vert. and horizontally. In fact, my Avatar is actually one of my scrap pages, it's hard to see on the message boards, but if you'll go to my profile page, you should be able to see it in more detail. If you need any further help - just holler

Forget going to my profile, I just loaded up the original one into one of my albums so you can see more detail. GOOD LUCK girl!

Howdy - I would create a special book to house those great pics for her. Cut down
12x12 papers to 12x7 or so. Make a front/back cover and fill the inside with colored pages to coordinate with the pics. Bind the book with ribbons or whatever you have on hand.

You ladies are so talented. What great knowledge you all have, thank you for sharing.

I wouldn't concern myself cutting them as you should really make copies of them !:)
I think those pictures will make enough of a statement to use them on their own with a lovely subdued 12X12 paper.
They can be used as 'banners' in their own right (top, middle or bottom) of the page, adding small journaling or information about the panoramic view if landscapes or cities are portrayed.
You also could do a double spread with three pictures stepping down (the middle one will have to be cut in two but you'll be using a copy, right? ;) )
I bet it's a bit daunting but go for it ! That's such a lovely gift. And remember scan them and reprint them on photographic paper, just in case.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas!
Sonshine, I love your banner...great pic. Gives me some ideas.
KKraftyiam, I thought about that...I still need to get some info from my MIL about the pics and see how they go with the regular size pics. Then I'll decide if I should put them in their own book. I thought of using the PW 5x11 album and integrating the pages into a larger 12x12 book with the regular size pics...we'll see.
Fabyon...you are right...the panoramas are gorgeous. I ordered the Busy Scrappers vacation pages...I will see how those pages work with the pics.
You all have given me lots to ponder! LOVE THIS BOARD!!!:p

You might try adding in other size photos or scanning in the panorama photo you are using and then digitally zooming in on a portion of it and printing it to use on your layout. Here is a real simple page I did as part of a dual-page layout. This particular album has a lot of panorama pictures in it, but I usually added in other sizes of pictures as well.

Love your layout. Yep - that's why I set my camera to the highest setting - so I can zoom way in on portions and not have to worry about blur or grain. Eats up your flash card quicker - but I can always recharge or drop in another card. Can't make up for lost opporunities though.

Oh wow Cheryl! That layout is just awesome!
How do you print a panorama photo? My camera will take them. If I have them printed at the photo lab in Wal-Mart will they come out that size?

Do you have a RITZ Camera shop anywhere near you? I would not be taking photos like that to Wal-Mart (sorry if I offend anyone here) after I found out you can get superior quality photo prints from a reputable camera shop at or near the same price as Wal-Mart and be able to get virtually any size photos you want - it was a no-brainer for me. Even if you don't have a Ritz camera shop near you - you can place an order online and they'll send them to you. They'll charge you of course, but it's worth it. I go online, place my order and since they're close to me - I pick up my order in an hour at no extra charge. The only time I've had to wait is when I had a poster done. :D Hope this helps.

I heard all the Ritz camers places are going out of business- At least the ones here and in Central Oregon are--
I also heard that Costco does a good job at their pics too. I print my own - but I also don't scrap pics of my own family...Bad Angela!

Ritz is doing great here. I usually print my own as well. But when I have a large number of 4x6's - it's cheaper for me to have them done.

Completely agree, I use either Snapfish (HP) or Pixum (German company) and you can't beat their prices the only thing is you need to have many photographs processed at the same time to make sense of the savings (50-100). I bought a new HP Photosmart printer and it works brilliantly for the occasional picture and when people visit it's fun to be able to print pictures there and then for them.

SO many of these photo processing companies severely limit the size photos they can print - what about Snapfish?

When I order thru Meijer, it's processed thru Snapfish and I pick them up at Meijer. I am very pleased with their processing. But they are only located in 5 states in my area.

If you have a camera with APS film in it and you take a photo in the panorama mode--yes it will be developed that way. What ever mode you have it set for (for each picture) that is the way it will be developed.
We all know about 4x6 photos and 5x7 and 8x10's, but did you know that Walmart will enlarge any of your photos in the panorama format (4x11) or
8x12---yep, yep yep! Just ask!

Good on Walmart I don't know about Asda (Walmart disguise in the UK) but I know they have developing lab in each stores.
As for Snapfish (http://www.snapfish.com), Sonshine just check on their website as each country has different options and availability.
