Hi! I am really enjoying exploring this board and getting to meet some fellow card making crafty people! Is anyone else out there into using tea bag folding and iris folding or paper piercing for your cards...I really like the more 3-D feel and look they can give a card.

Hi, Sister,
I've never tried tea bag folding. Please explain to me how its done. I do have a kit for iris folding but have been too scared to try it. I love the looks of the cards tho. I'm always looking for new cards to try. Have a nice day, Judi

My sister Melanie has done tea bag folding. I'll have to make sure she sees your post.

I actually have my first few tea bag folding "trys" on my bulletin board. I'm going to do this....I think I can.....I'm sure I can.

Trying to mustard up courage. I think it is beautiful and have it on my list of things to do and make. Would love to see your creations with this technique.

Yes, Ive done several cards with tea bag folding, but try as I might, I can't do iris folding! If I can find the a photo of one of the cards, I'll post it.

I love the look, but haven't tried either just yet. I do some piecing and piercing though-- usually sewing on my cards too. I try to keep focus or I will go crazy with all this new stuff, but then someone will post something absolutely beautiful and I will want to try...So let's see some pics you've done so you can enable all of us followers.:D

Yes..another thing on my list of things to try. Of course I don't have any of the tools and papers you need to do this but I must give this a try. You are such an enabler!

I thought I would never like quilling - when it first came out I thought "how ugly." Now I love the look of quilling and they can add so much to a card. Dang, another thing I have to learn... :D

I love the look of quilling, but for some reason it just doesn't interest me. Will just look at what others do instead!:D

Yes, Sister Frances, I love to do tea bag folding! In fact, the first cards I made were from HOTP's Paper Flair Teabag Folding Christmas Card kit, an old, out-of-print paper and instruction pack. I look on eBay every so often for any of the old teabag folding books that HOTP published about 8-10 years ago and are now out of print.

I haven't tried any iris folding, paper piercing, or quilling, but they're on my list of techniques to try on cards, when I get the time to just play.

Fab, I love your quilled card! I have had a quilling kit for a number of years but I just haven't gotten around to playing with it yet. :o

That's what they call me on another UK forum ! :D

I have to be honest with you, I simply adore quilling but it takes a bit to get used to, I know I'm going to become a full time quiller pretty soon but I like to mix it and match it with other elements.

Quilling should be considered an embellishment in its own right. One can add quillled filigree to a card to make it stand out and it looks really nice.

Sorry not trying to pimp my creations but here's an example of quilling used with different tecniques on the same card.

http://craftingmad.blogspot.com/2008/02/ismaky-sketch-no-5.html

On this oriental card I've added some curled quilling strips to soften it.

Quilling is fun but very fiddly so tons of patience is required.

I used the Christmas card teabag fold book and loved it. It's time-consuming, but not really hard, once you get the hang of it. It's important to make sharp creases. Since I'm not a cardmaker, I used the designs as scrapbook embellishments for Christmas pages. I did Iris Folding just once. It turned out all right, and I'm glad I did it, but don't want to do it again. I used it as a dimensional frame for a scrapbook photograph. Quilling has been fun to try, too. I made several poinsettias for ornaments and have embellished several scrapbook pages with small quilled flower arrangements.

I have done some tea bag folding........trying to integrate origami into the cards that I make. For me it is getting the right look for the occasion of the card. But the tea bag can add so much dimension to the card and makes a really nice 3D look. I tried it with gold foil origami paper came out pretty good.......I will try and get a photo of it and send it to you later........

Judi, I am trying to think how to explain it on this board. My computer skills are not enough to figure out how to post a "demo" and I don't know how to get pictures on here either...I am so new to all of this, but I am learning! I love all the ideas I am seeing here!

I found this great tutorial for Tea Bag Folding :

http://buzabouts.blogspot.com/2007/10/tea-bag-folding-tutorial.html

Although she ends up making a Christmas Tree (very useful though) the principles are the same for creating motives.

As for iris folding you really need to follow the pattern that goes with the kit. You can also buy stamps that create the pattern and just cut out the aperture to fit it.

Here's a HOTP tutorial for making an iris folded frame:

I have yet to try this technique though. :)

fabyon thanks for the sight on tea bag folding. I went to it and while I was looking at it, I remembered I have a book on it somewhere. I am going to go through my stuff and look for it.
It was one of the many items I have that I have not done anything with and it got pushed to the back when we moved.

Hi,everyone! I didn't know you could talk about other sites here...I actually got started with tea bag folding with the old HOTP card kits too, I really enjoyed them....my mother would give them to me, but anyway, a totally free site I really enjoy is www.circleofcrafter.com; they have teabag folding, iris folding, other card making things, and a lot of links to sites for free tea bag squares, circles, octagons, etc. I also love quilling and did Christmas ornament snowflakes a few years back that were really nice. But it does take time and patience, and a love for detail!
I am so glad I am "meeting" more and more of you here! If I ever figure out how to get a picture on the computer I will post some of my cards.
Well anyway, have a fun rest of your weekend!

Melanie, thanks for the web address on iris folding. This looks incredibly difficult, but fascinating at the same time. One of the Paper Flair folding kits had a card that was pretty close to teabag folding and so now I understand what it is.

I do both tea bag folding and iris folding for cards and my scrapbook pages. They add so much impact with a small investment of time. My husband is a tv addict and I have my supplies to do both these techniques in the family room so I can keep him company and not lose my mind! I just started posting, but if I can figure out attachments, I'll try to upload some of my cards.

You can also post pictures in your own "personal album." Just click on Community towards the top of the page, then on Pictures and Albums. It's pretty easy to do, but ifyou need help, just holler.

I love quilling!! I am in the process of making Christmas ornaments for my family this year. I will be "killing 2 birds with 1 stone" by using the ornaments on the front of their Christmas cards.
