View Full Version : ATC's - is it ok to put this under scrapbooking thread?

ATC's - I've never been much good at them, have done a few but never really liked what I produced.
Thinking of having a good go at makings some - do you have any to show what you have done? or any specific websites on ATC's.
Going to have a look at Paper Wishes to see if they've got a webisode or two on them also.
Thanks in advance.

They are pretty popular, but I just don't get it. Do you just pass them out?
Like a Baseball card?

Actually you can joins swaps, or threads on other sites etc and trade them for other ATC's that you really like.
NOW !! Having said all that - I don't like parting with anything I make, unless I specifically make something for someone, IYKWIM .
So I haven't done a trade, but I like the look of the 'spinner' PW webisode and have seen one of these before.
Can't afford the spinner - so thinking of making my own with a BIA and a kind of mug tree (does this make any sense whatsoever).
I think I will have to make and show.

Cantstop - you are SO innovative. You remind me so much of myself. When I see something different - I try to figure out how I can make it - instead of finding out where I can buy it. I've never gotten into atc's, it's probably fun since it's so popular. The closest thing near me that was going on like that was my daughter-in-law got involved with a group that were doing "progressive mini bag books" Which was kind of neat - one started it and it got sent to everyone in turn on the list. They each made a page consisting of things in life they love, and then on it would go to the next. Somehow or other, they drew names in the end for who got to keep it. It sounded fun - but I wondered how I would ever find the time. Good luck in your search and keep us posted on what you find out.

I'm such an old "stickinthemud" I don't do anything except scrapbook. While it might be ok to focus on just one thing, I think the other things are a way to "stretch creativity" and I might try them just to have something different to embellish my scrapbook pages!

thank you Fabyon. That is a lovely 'set' - I am having to watch the pennies at the moment -
Having said that - I have just found out that 2 years ago, maybe more, I bought some plastic wallets sheets from WHSmiths - they're for trading cards - as in Pokamon etc - but they're the same size as ATC's - so I'm going to use those to display mine afterall.
Thanks everyone for your input tho.

You know I'm a firm believer in looking for alternatives to scrapbook supplies for things useful - because it just seems like once they target the scrapbook market - the price skyrockets. Hmmm, wonder why that is???? I'm forever standing over my dh when he gets around to cleaning out the garage. I couldn't believe one day he was going to throw out a super cool little parts cabinet - I snatched that up right now. Great for holding brads, and because they're not labeled for scrapbooking - super cheap. How big are these ATC cards? Just wondering because they're coming out now with all these photo album filler sheets. I wonder if they would work too? Now I suppose I'll be on the hunt for those :p

Could you imagine the crop we'd have - FANTABYDOSEY eh.
Well, here are a few ATC's - now adhered to my pages in my little ATC book ! - I don't think they're fantastic - but I feel that I am learning with each ATC I am doing - they're certainly better than the onese I did initially anwyay !
Also, I've been using different techniques - I just ADORE transparencies - the victorian lady was printed onto a tranparency and it is so high glossy - shiney - IRL - it's wonderful. AND the printed band on the 'secrets' ATC - lovely. PLUS I must tell you, the background on the Victorian Lady was made with Fantasy Film and Angel Hair - ironed together - it's come out absolutely scrumptious. Have you tried it - it's lovely stuff.
Anyway, I'm going to walk the dog, get some washing on and then do a few more - I HOPE.
Have a great Saturday.

Wow Gilly! Have you ever been busy while I've been gone?! Love what you did!!! Can you share how you made your little book? That is toooo clever! And yes, ATC sleeves are basically the same as the little plastic sleeves for trading cards, as ATC's are "altered" trading cards. Same size.

again the book was pretty eezee peezee peeps.
empty toilet rolls - all the same size - flatten - wet glue insides - press them with heavy books so they stay flat.
Cut a piece of card the same width as the length of the toilet roll - and concertina - so the flattened rolls will glue into the 'valleys & mountains' of the concertina.
cover every side with patterned paper - and voila ! as I said, pretty eezee peezee peeps.
Got to get to bed, really tired, busy day tomrrow too.

Hi Melanie. Fantasy Film & Angel Hair is below. You might know them as different names ?
The angel hair IRL is vibrant blue - but kinda irredescent too - it looks very grey in my pic?
Then if you lay one layer of fantasy film and then a layer of angel hair then another layer of fantasy film - cover it with a heat resistant sheet - craft sheet - iron - it comes out like the other picture - but again, IRL this is very vibrant, irredescent, blues and purples - GORGEOUS !

I really like these, Gilly - And LOVE the hinges - I'm a hardware kinda girl. I never thought to look in doll house wares. ONe of the teachers at my favorite "evil" store made a totally cool mini book a couple months ago, and she used a wooden doll house window pane over the photo on front, and a wooden door at the bottom that opened to show the photo underneath. Too many WANTS!!!!!

I'm afraid I am 'crafty' cos again I have to confess that the 'can' idea was not my own 'BLUSH,BLUSH,BLUSH' - it was from a webisode on the old Craft TV Weekly site, I think it was Michael Strong from Michael Strong Rubber Stamps who was demo'ing cutting up cans and ironing them flat (with a towel and ordinary iron) AND then using snips etc to cut out shapes - or through the cuttlebug etc.
BE very CAREFUL the ALUMINIUM is VERY sharp!
