View Full Version : Just saying HI to other card makers
Just wanted to say "HI" to you other card makers. I don't know anyone who doesn't need a card now and then and in these times what better way to save a few pennies than to make your own. Am I the only one amazed at what they charge now a days! And there is such a wealth of ideas out there to do yourself. I am always amazed at the creativity I see. And so many are easy to do if you only know how.
Happy Card Making!

Hi, Nanc....I just signed up today for this message board. Have you been a cardmaker for long? I just hit my first year anniversary. It's so fun and relaxing. My hubby let me convert our 4th bedroom into a craft room and I'm so much more productive having my own space. Anyway, I'll look for your card ideas. I'm still so "green" that I'm afraid I don't have much to contribute that others don't already know. I'm in to "punch art" right now, so I'm making my own flowers for my cards.

About 3 years ago, I decided to make a family recipe album with photos for my daughter and daughter-in-law for Christmas. It was a year long labor of love. But I swore I wasn't going to get "hooked" into the whole scrapbook and papercraft frenzy. Yeah ... right ... let's just say I was in severe denial. Since then I have become an avid card maker and with the arrival of my first grandchild last year, I am also a newbie in the scrapbooking world. It seems there are more techniques and new products coming out DAILY, which is so exciting, but also overwhelming at times. Looking forward to the day I can retire and devote more hours of the day to my crafting passion!:)

Hi everyone,
I have been making cards for what seems like forever and thoroughly enjoy it. My biggest pay off for making cards is the delight and surprise in see in the receiver's face and their explanation "you made this!" Then I got into scrap booking. That's always a challenge. At any rate, just wanted to say hey, and I look forward to exchanging ideas and visiting with everyone.
Make it a great day.

Hi everyone, I am new to this site. I love everything I have seen. I am new to card making but I am not! LOL What I mean is I have been busy for the last three years buying stamps and everything to make cards. We moved into a bigger house two years ago and the fourth bedroom was made into my craft room. My family said people can come to my craft room and buy what they need. It is like a store. I am getting it just like I want it and I am ready to work on cards and scrapbooking.FUNFUNFUN!!!!

Hi everyone. This is my first time on a message board so am trying to learn my way around. I am new to card making, only been a few months but it is so enjoyable. I had no idea it would be such a stress reliever. My family enjoys all the different cards I've been making, and I love shopping for the ribbons, brads and the beautiful papers, etc. Hope to talk to some of you soon.:)

I LOVE cardmaking & am so happy to meet you all. I know we share a special addiction. Hey there! Like all of you I am so hooked on card making. Once I get started I can kill a whole day. Right now I am working on some "sets" with sentiments that can be added to the card for whatever occasion. I just make tags and put two sided tape on the back. I have made sets of four cards with six tags so far. What fun!! Probably will use these as gifts for friends and family. So glad this forum is here.

Hi everyone! I too just registered on this board. I have been hooked on making cards since receiving " cards made by daughter-in-law!" She did such perfect cards that suited the occasion be it anniversaries, birthday or others. Though she does lots of rubber-stamping and I have attempted that I just can't get the hang of it! I even went to stamp-party and ended up buying all kinds of supplies and need to use them! :(

Hi everyone, I'm so glad we all have a place to talk about our love of making cards! I've been making cards and teaching card making classes for several years now. I first started making cards because I had so many beautiful paper scraps left from scrapbooking. What got you all started in card making?

Hello, I just signed up today April 9th. I have been making cards for some time. I have about six to eight friends and we get together once or twice a month to make cards. We also camp together with our husbands in the summer and continue making cards . It keeps all of us on our toes trying to find new techniques to share with each other.

I started by just using a computer card printer program about eight years ago and added little embellishments here and there. After a few years, I am a card making maniac! I don't have ALL of the styles down pat, (I am NOT a very good stamper, YET, but I've mastered the heat embossing [thermography] part of it!)!
I LOVE hearing the "You're SO creative" thing and I am the 'official' card maker at the office, but that's a job I LOVE! ;)
Nice meeting you all and enjoy what makes you happy!

Hi there,I just read your message to Nanc.Welcome to the MB.I thought I'd give you a small bit of advice so you won't make the same "mistake "I did 3 years ago.Take your time in choosing what you will and will not buy because this could run into a lot of $$ if you are not careful. When I started to make my cards I bought everything in sight.I now have things here collecting dust and am so sorry I bought.3 years ago I thought I had to have everything.I got on e-bay and spent hundreds of $$.Stamps, punches, paper etc.Now I am more selective on the things I buy.I see you are using flower punches for your decorations. That is one thing I just love,my punches.I like to make my cards and on the inside use a punched out design with the same paper as I used on the front. It looks so nice!! I look at it this way.If you buy a punch you can use it over and over with any paper you want.If you keep buying stickers to get the same effect it will cost you in the long run.Hope this advice can help you or anyone else reading it. ~Sandra~ :)

Hi Teresa,I have an answer to your question about "How do you remember what cards you have made as to not send the same one again." This takes a little time but I keep a log.I write their name, date, occasion and a small discription of the card I made.I have been making my own cards for 3 years now and because of keeping a log of 3 years I have never had a repeat. And anyhow if I do send a similar repeat they probably won't remember.Hope this helps in answering your question. ~Sandra~:)

Hello all!
I love paper and have filled my craft room with it and anything you can imagine having to do with it! Like many others, after getting started scrapping and card making, I bought lots of things that I don't use or won't use.
To make more room for items I know I will use, I gathered up my un/won't use'd' treasures and donated them to a local elementary school - they need anything that can be donated!
Glad to be here and can't wait to explore all the ideas you all have. Am I the only one that has problems with inspiration? I can sit and think of all these neat things to do - especially cards I'd like to make, then can't think of a thing when I sit down! That's why I love the instant card art and things like that that PaperWishes offers .. Webisodes are awesome, too!
Have fun!

Another way to remember cards you've made are to take a snapshot of it, you can store the pics in a special folder on your computer or print them out - use captions to say 'who to', etc.
Of course you have to have a puter, but for those that do .. this works!

I used to photograph them, then I got a scanner (now a scanner/copier) and started scanning them and printing them onto a piece of white paper. I am on my 4th large 3-ring binder full of years of my work! It is great for remembering from year to year, and for finding that cool card you remember making and want to make again. I put notes on the page and the recipiant name and date across the bottom for easy-to-find reference, then I file them by birthday month, and have tabs for: anniversary, thank you, sympathy, graduation, misc, etc.... Most of my cards are quarter fold, so they fit on one page... sometimes I have to decrease my scan size to save ink, or to fit on a page...
Works for me!

Hi again Teresa,I forgot to mention another thing I do to keep my memory in line so as to not send the same card twice. I am a stamper.I have about 100 or so.I usually do a stamp on my cards some where or other. And I have a few books with comforting thoughts I write inside my cards. So to keep track of everything I numbered my stamps with a marker on the side of the stamp. And I have numbered the sayings as well.So when I log them into my log book I write (as an exanple)...
Date -April 10,2009
Name-John Doe
Occasion-In hospital
Sent-Homemade card or bought card (sometimes I use store bought cards if I am in a pinch for time)
#8 stamp,#3 saying
Hope you all understand this.I tried to make it easy to understand.I will say again this takes a little time to do,logging in your information in a tablet. But it will save you from losing your mind  when you can't remember what you sent to who. ~Sandra~ :)

Again, glad you've joined!
Oh how fun to read through and meet all of you! We will never lack of something to talk about will we. LOL I've already picked up a few tips. Something I have been trying to do is try a new technique as often as I can. Sometimes I find myself not particularly liking it...but I won't know if I don't try. And at other times I find a new way to fold a card or add an embellishment and think, "now why didn't I try this before now...its great"! LOL
