I read on another message board the Memory Makers magazine is closing up shop. It's really no big surprise or disappointment to me. I do feel sorry for the people that are losing jobs due to this tho. But I feel the magazine has been going downhill lately, and I've heard others say the same. I think September is the last issue.

I hated to see Simple Scrapbooks go. What's left of the big ones, other than Creating Keepsakes? :(

I'm sorry to hear about Memory Makers magazine. Its such a shame for those who work there. Hope that Creating Keepsakes isn't next. Love that magazine. I've noticed that there's less craft magazines around lately. Will keep my fingers crossed that we don't lose Creating Keepsakes. Know that Lisa Bearnson isn't going to be doing programs on QVC any more. She said it was to spend more time with her family. Hope it isn't for any other reason. Judi

Sorry to bring bad news but even on the CK front it doesn't look too good

I heard about MM but not CK. That's really bad news! I hope the industry doesn't fall apart. I need inspiration (that's what I call the things I scraplift).

I wouldn't be too surprised if CK folds too. Just seems like things are becoming "oversaturated" lately. And I'm just not too pleased with the magazines like I used to be. I have a CK sitting on my desk that's been there for over a week now, and I have yet to open it! My favorite magazine is now Scrapbooking & Beyond, and that is mainly because it has HOTP stuff in it! :D Hope that one is around for a good long while!

We've still got PW, HOTP and this MB, so we can keep inspiring each other! I think part of the problem is the economy. If you've got a choice between a magazine and gas for your car, the gas wins. Also, there are so many publications on the internet now, that you don't need them in "paper" anymore. It' still sad to see them go. :(

I like Making Cards a UK magazine but the clincher for me to subscribe to it is because HOTP has their own two pages with two or three projects every month.....

I also was sorry to hear about MM, and I'm hoping that CK's reorganization works. I would hate to see them fold too. This economy stinks!

That's too bad, especially since both MM and CK have been there from the beginning. When I first started scrapping 10 years ago, they were the two main sb magazines available.

The one I miss most is Scrapbook Answers (that's the one with the disc). It was only out a year or two but the one I liked best. I stopped by subscription to MM when they changed the format, but still took a look at CK.

Yes, that's the one I really miss too! Loved that magazine. And, I got to attend the Girl's Weekend in Phoenix that they did. I got to meet so many cool sb designers/teachers there.

My fave is Scrapbooks ETC done by the folks at Better Homes and Gardens (BHG).

This might explain why I'm having trouble finding LisaBecky rail storage system elements.

You might look at Ikea they have a rail system that works nicely for SB.

Old scrapbook magazines are among the many things I hoard so I revisit all of the techniques I've forgotten long ago, but so many of the products are no longer on the market so I've been translating the exotic inspiration into something do-able (liftable) by adapting the old staples to them. Sometimes I'm even happier with my results than with what I saw on the original. I did a page for my nephew, for instance, and wanted to use some big bold metal studs to embellish but the particular ones I had in mind weren't being sold anymore, so I used my old reliable PW screw top brads and I liked the way it came out because the studs would have looked like they'd come off motorcycle leathers and it would have been too harsh on a page dedicated to an 8-year-old boy.

I just received my new issue of MM and there's no mention that I see of their iminent demise. Is it fact or fiction? I'd read/heard somewhere, not just this messageboard, also that they were closing up shop. Anyone know?

:rolleyes:I don't subscribe to any craft magazines. I bought on e-bay about a year ago, "The Joy of Card Making." It is put out by (PaperCraftsMag.com). The copyright date is 2005. It has tons of ideas as it has 154 pages of step by step instructions.I have lifted a lot of ideas from that and I am so glad I have it because sometimes I get a mental block and it helps to get some ideas when your brain is asleep!!

Yes it's true and you'll receive a letter soon from them offering you either a refund on the remaining sub or some publications of theirs as sweetener !

Who needs magazine when we have this mb & each other for ideas? I would hate to see CK go under like the others but with the economy the way it is, every thing is iffy. I know that I wasn't impressed with MM lately. Can't find CK in the local store now. Scary. Judi

And to tell the truth, I don't get all excited about getting a new magazine like I used to. They just don't seem to interest me that much anymore. Now if I get a new PW scrapbook or card making monthly kit, that's another story!

I've never once bought a crafting magazine. Always thought that the money I spend on that I could buy more crafty supplies (I sound mean, but we have to watch every penny) especially since the economy downturn.
However, my customers here are now saying that things are a bit - on the upturn? It'd be nice if the recession has only last 18 months (but I doubt it)....................

Wouldn't that be nice if things are going to start getting better now? Not so sure of it tho. One of my co-workers told me her hubby was laid off yesterday, and our gas prices are going back up again. :(

no fab - not yet - but on the news (computer news) it's saying that get your best deals you can NOW before the rises. I suppose that IF things are looking up (albeit only a bit) - my customer last week said that his firm (construction - are rehiring now and building again) it all adds up to (maybe) an interest rate increase - I really really hope not, but nothing any of us can do.
I suppose we could always ask the MP's for some financial advice
Being the truly addictive personality I am, have to own up to just a leeetttle magazine addiction too, although it's mostly (my story and I'm sticking to it) overflowing in the cooking mags department...but my fav crafting mag is "Scrap and Stamp It"...anyone else like that one?

that must be an American Mag cos I haven't heard of it over here. I look through the mags at the magazine section in the Supermarket - I always used to buy the X-Stitch magazines years ago because I was an avid cross stitcher - must take a pic of a cross stitch I did which took me 2 years !! But apart from a little project here and there I don't X-stitch any more.
I've always bought 'homes and garden' magazine - until 12 months ago as I did a diploma in Interior Design - I just hated giving all those magazines away when they were something like £1 - £2 each.
I used to buy slimming magazines (as I've tended to be on a diet most of my adult life  ) but I don't buy them anymore. My daughter used to have 2 - 3 different magazines per month to do with 'the music scene' - until I discovered about 10 magazines that were still in their plastic 'posting' envelopes as they had arrived.............................
It's all stopped. I bet I am saving hundreds upon hundreds of pounds. :D
Oh, here is the pic of the X-Stitch 'Cats' I did - it took me just over two years and I stitched at it when the kids were little - nearly EVERY night for those 2 years - couldn't do it now as my eyes are too bad.

OMG Gilly! That is the same exact cross-stitch I've been working on too! But it's been more than two years in the works. I used to be an avid cross-stitcher, but like you, my eyes are getting too old for it. And I used to work on 22 ct also! Yikes! Don't know how I could see that small! I haven't worked on any cross-stitch since I had surgery, and that was back in the fall of '02.

That is a beautiful work of art. You should be very proud of it. I have Xstiched a bit but it just doesn't hold my interest long enough to ever get something done. I'm so easily distracted.

HOW WEIRD IS THAT THEN HeATHER !! - that must be 16 years old - 14 years old - wait I shall go and check - yep I started it 1992 and finished it almost exactly 2 years later in 94 - I find that really weird.
As I said, I could NEVER do anything like that these days - unless I had really strrong specs on - and then I wouldn't be able to watch TV whlst I did it.
I find scrapping late at night difficult too - these days - and flicking about on the computer.
Ah well, such is life.
I've been out shopping with DD all afternoon getting her some shoes - I thought I was difficult to please where shoes were concerned  I was so tired and had an awful headache whenj I got home and it's boiling hot sunshine outthere too today. I had to sleep and take some tablets and have had to cancel my reflexology treatment at 6 pm until next thursday. I've taken two days Annual Leave from work and literally done NOTHING !
Feel as IF I've wasted the time. Good news is that my head is almost back to normal now - hubby is cooking his own dinner - so I might be able to do some scrapping tonight instead.
See yous all later.

I subscribe to them all. However, for those of you reporting problems seeing those little holes in the fabric, I recommend switching to needlepointe. An 11X17 needlpointe piece took me a month to do (evenings in front of the TV) as opposed to spending 2 years on a x-stitch piece of the same size.

Not sure when I started on mine, but I know it was pre-2002, probably by a few years. Wish I could remember where it even is. lol
