Yesterday was a chilly and grey day, and I went to Melanie's in the afternoon and we worked on our cards. I finished two that I had started at the Mega Meet last weekend, and then worked some on a third. I'm hoping to get back to her house (she only lives like 2 blocks away) after church today, and work on some more. Need to get posting more of my finished cards too. What is everyone else working on?

You two are so fortunate to live so close to each other. I have 5 sisters and the closest one lives 400 miles away! I'm so jealous :(

Yes, we are! We have another sister, who also scraps, and she lives about 1/2 mile from me, maybe a little less. We are all three within a mile of each other. And we are all very close. :)

you are lucky that you are close to your sisters - in miles and affection.

I live about 25 miles away from my sister - we have absolutely nothing in common - we hardly see each other - we haven't fallen out or anything like that, we are always happy to see each other but we just don't get round to seeing each other. It's such a pity.

I get on VERY well with my cousin tho who lives about 13 miles from me, we talk on the phone 3 - 4 times a week - sometimes more - our phone bills are astronomical - having said all that she's 'arty' but not papercrafting - and she works evenings - so we don't get together regularly.

HOWEVER, I do have two very good friends whom are 'sort of' into crafting - scrapping?? - cardmaking etc - they don't have much 'stash' tho - I have offered to arrange a get together once a month for us to 'craft' together, they're all for it - but I'm a bit concerned that it;'ll be MY stash and they have no idea how much the stuff actually costs.

Do I arrange the day, once a month, do like a project for us all to do at the day - but charge them for the stash used?

Back to the question - what we all up to this weekend ! It has been torrential rain for most of the weekend here - no dog walking today - I gave him a quick drag around the block yesterday !

Just been over to have a look at the motorbike my son is buying - it took us an hour to get there and an hour back - feel I've wasted my Sunday away, now I can do a bit of crafting tho whilst chicken is cooking.

She doesn't do message boards at all. And she doesn't do classes, look at magazines, scraplift. She just does her own thing. But she does it pretty well.

Unless you can provide them with a list of stuff to bring, that's what I would do, and let them know that up front. Sharing both ways is one thing, but if they always used all your supplies, that's gonna be costly for you. Maybe you can all go shopping together, and you can show them what they need? Hope you can work it out.

My Sunday's going to be a card making day. I've already made 2 from my new May's card making kit. I have no family left any more just my 4 cats. They're more into running off with things & playing with them than not. So I feel pleased to have found this message board. Gives me great people who shares the same interests as me. Have a great day. Judi

Judi, my sister Melanie has that same problem with her cat! Hers is always stealing her ribbon and chewing holes in it. And he once ate a ribbon bow.

So glad you are enjoying the boards. So nice to chat with others who enjoy the same things, isn't it?!

I don't have a sister :(

Dh's computer broke, so that means he has to use mine and I don't get time to do stuff for my cards and things. I have about 30 secs before he comes up here now :)

remind me to check out your Christmas Card blog then - it'll be interesting to see Fab when you've done.

This is what I have to contend with ALL the time - my one cat - kitty - is always in front of me when I'm trying very hard to scrap - I put her on the floor and within two minutes she's back again. PLUS I have the dog sitting to my left - well he lies down and relaxes by me - and then my other cat will come up to me - right hand side and keep pressing his very cold nose into my arm whilst I'm trying to use the mouse - TRUTH be known, I love it ! - love them.

I tend to agree with Heather on this one.Take them shopping and let them pick out a few things to make a simple card for example. That way they can pick out their own color scheme using the things they have personally picked out! Paper, ribbon, stickers etc. Sounds like you are going to be their tutor and the first lesson should be, shop for the items you will need for your project.Right!?!?Make a day of it.Maybe lunch, talk over what they want to make, make a small list and then head for your favorite craft store. How does this idea sound?:D

sounds wonderful - big but's tho!. They don't drive - so I will have to pick them up. We thought about using the back of my husbands shop on a Sunday. As I said they have no stash to speak of, which includes NO glue, No adhesives, No scissors, No cuttlebug etc etc.................so I thought that I would probably make a small 'twinchies' album the first 'class' - cut it all out beforehand and get them to put it together - bringing photo's with them to stick on to the twinchies.

I will use my stuff from stash I already have and just work out 'roughly' what it's going to cost me and just charge them for what they actually use.

I feel a bit mean charging them, but we all know that stash is expensive, I've built my stock up over the 2 years I've been scrapping and I am currently watching my pennies (long story) so I have to be careful that I don't start to get too low on stash, IYKWIM !

That cat is a darling ! You can see she wants your attention. I'm not a cat person and even if we use to have a dog in my family, I wouldn't get either now. Well I can't anyway because I'm not allowed pets in my rent contract. We have some lovely Chinese minnows (they look like neon tetra) and Vince got 5 Hermit Crabs different sizes. I'm fond of 'Pinchy' as he's got a personality of his own. He's always perched on a branch we put in the vivarium (posh word to mean an aquarium with no water in it ! LOL).

What is a "twinchies" album? They don't drive!!! Are they 3 or 83?? I know what you mean about our stashes. I have been putting mine together for 3 1/2 years now. I am also watching my pennies. Who isn't nowadays,IYKWIM.Things are bad all over!! I went whole hog when I started out and bought everything in sight. My hubby got on me about spending so much money and he put me on a $20.00 per month craft budget.:rolleyes:Sometimes I stay in budget and sometimes I don't.I just hope he doesn't notice my DH.DH does stand for (DEAR HUSBAND) right??:D

When I started crafting (I started card making) - I was at the craft store for 2, 3, 4 times a week - spending £10 - £20 - £30 plus - one month (when I purchased my cuttlebug) I spent in excess of £250 ! It had to stop. It did.

I now try and only buy little items (although they do mount up), I don't class the adhesives and glue or cardstock as purchases (there are ways of getting round budgets huh).

On average I spend about £30 a month - some months I don't spend anything - the following month it's a little over.

I am very good these days.

I now need to get to bed as I've spent so much time looking through the PW shop - HOW I'D LOVE TO BUY IT ALL !!

Speak tomorrow peeps. Have a great Sunday evening.

I spent the whole afternoon cleaning and reorganizing my craft area. It wasn't much fun, but when I get ready to make a card later, I'll be glad I did it. All my cs scraps are separated by color, into ziploc bags. My stamps, stamp pads and pencils are all in plastic boxes, and there's nothing on my work table now but my Cricut and cutting pad. :D

I am going to an all day crop on May 23rd - so I have spent today looking through photos, papers, card stock and embellishments. I am getting my stuff together so I will have everything I need when I get there. I hate having to spend money for some embellishment I have at home!!! I have also been printing photos to take with me. I use the Croppin' Companion so all of my stuff for each project is together. I also need to get some extra embellishments and tools together ~ you never know when a whim is gonna hit!!!:D

I need to see what is available here. I don't ever get out and don't know of any craft things that are fun. The last thing I went to was on National scrap day. I called to see if I had to RSVP and they said no-come join the fun, there are a lot of ladies here working on their cricut. I went and they were leaving. The person I talked to neglected to tell me that they were there all night AND she wasn't even there when I got there. She left before I got there to have lunch and was gone for over 2 hours while I sat there wondering if anyone was coming back. I was so disappointed and not sure if I want to go back again. I did really like the store owner though, but still.

Ok, my week is packed. I stayed up untill 2:00AM this morning making my GD a napsack. I've been working on building my Mother's air conditioner brace for outside and the panels to fill in the spaces between the air conditioner and the sides of her windows. Everything is built just painting them so they go with her house. Next is my GD B-card, a sympathy card, a thinking of you card. I teach a christian education class on Tuesday and I'm having the class over to my house this Tuesday and need to clean house, study and figure out what I'm having for snacks.

I'm trying to help my youngest daughter install wooden blinds in a bedroom and got my drill bit stuck in the window frame. Now I have to figure out how to get it out. Oh yea, I work every Monday and one day this week I have to take my Mother to the Dr.

Whew! I'm tired....

Well since I didn't have possession of my computer over the weekend, I made a few cards. I usually rely a lot on designs I see and "copy" them, but I couldn't do that. I have an expo that I am going to next month and need a whole lot of Fathers Day cards, so these are what I came up with.

The green one was inspired by Mary's card on her blog video. It's the same paper and I made it SUPER simple, just to see if I could leave it alone.

The one with the little boy was hard to leave alone. I thought I finished it several times but kept adding things. I didn't mat the edge so I had to add some stickles to it LOL. I just added the poem.

The one with the dragon came from a drawing by Dustin Pike. DH wanted bright and vibrant colors, like a superhero, just like the inside says.

DH will bring these to work and I am hoping they do not sell so I can use them at the Expo :)

I will add more details on my blog tomorrow--

Hi, Heather. Its so much fun on this board. The last one I was on, they weren't into be nice or sharing ideas. I think they must have needed burying. I like the fun I have here. Every one's just so great. I love the idea of hearing from cardmakers from England. It makes the world a little smaller and makes us all apart of a creative community instead of one that's set on destroying the world. Have a great day. Judi

And just like in a real-life family, everyone's input is needed for communication to be successful. I have nothing of vital importance to say, I just wanted to sign in to agree. This is a comfortable place where no one is on a power-trip. I appreciate the atmosphere. I'm meeting such nice people who are interested in scrapbooking and paper crafting and not bragging about how much they know and how little someone else does!

Right now I'm working on a new baby album and I used Jessica Sprague's 1/2 circle template for the journaling. I plan to cut it, embellish it with pearlized mini-brads and mount it on a chipboard flower. Then probably glaze it.

Angela - I have been to a few with a friend who passed away 18 months ago from breast cancer. This is my first one since ~ I was a little hesitant about going because we always had such a good time together. I am going with another friend who wanted to go - she is semi-new to scrapbooking so I decided to bite the bullet and go with her. We are going about one hour away. I had received a notice from a newsletter I had signed up for and that is how I found this one.

I would encourage you to try again - but maybe get some more information before you go. This notice had all the particulars in it - it is a three day event - but you can sign up for one, two or all three days. They not only stated that they were serving meals but also what they were serving. I received a second notice about workshops that were available for an additional fee.

I would also suggest telling the store owner about your experience. If you didn't receive all of the pertinent information beforehand she can see to it that all of the necessary information is given out. People cannot correct what they don't know about. Of course, you may have already talked to her in which case my advice is superfluous.

Dee;)

Angela - your cards came out BEAUTIFUL!!!! I am so in love with that little dragon. I love how you did the inside of the cards, too. The 'simple' one came out fantastic as well. Looks like you've got a really good start on your new line. I just love your cards. They have so much detail, so vibrant in color, and your stamp designs are adorable. Was that puffy paint you used on the clouds? Just too stinkin' cute, girl.

PW does not carry envelopes to match their paper lines, do they? I'll have to put that in their suggestion box perhaps. Or perhaps I just missed them. I just came back from the Scrapbook store, and Bazzill has some beautiful cards and envelopes out now. I was going to pick up a box but then I thought what if the colors don't match the PW paper I'm using?

Thanks for sharing!!!

LOL -- My 11 year old is pretty bright. She spends a lot of time reading, researching, or watching the History and Discovery channels, and she always wants to share ALL the stuff she learns with me. Occassionally I have to tell her that my brain is full and that she has to wait until I forget something before she can give me any additional information. But I don't blame my forgetfulness on a "ancient brain", just a busy life. At least that's my story & I'm sticking too it.;)

Beautiful invite. Are you going to be mailing some of these? One thing I didn't see in the directions is how you are to hold it closed? If I was doing this, I would get those tiny velcro fasteners that just stick on so that the "envelope" could be opened and closed without glue or tape (thus no tearing of the pretty paper).
Please post one when you finish!

Patty It,

We will be mailing the invitations, but we will put them in a separate mailing envelope (I know it will cost more, but I don't want to risk damage to the invitations themselves). Also, we will be using a velcro closure.

We are using 4 different HOTP packs (Busy Scrapper's Vintage, Floral Backgrounds, Joy's Vintage and and Coordinating Florals and Patterns) for the invitations, so each one will be a different color, but same style.

I'll post a sample from each pack when we're done.

I agree. These cards are just too pretty to tear open!!!

Asiverson,

I hoping MIL and invitees use the invitations as a keepsake. That would be the ultimate compliment. I will post a few of the different ones we make.

I'm working on cards for a class I have coming up in July and writing instructions for others. Plus playing a bit (can't be all work, right!?) We don't have any major plans for the holiday - we'll probably cook out tomorrow night - get some nice thick steaks or something. Maybe make some potato salad.

I bought some stamps last week that are good to use with Flower Soft and I'm anxious to try them out and see how they look - I'll post if they're decent! I also ordered some great cat stamps and I'm waiting with bated breath for them to come. I'm a cat freak - I love making cat cards, and scrapbooking my two "angels" (who don't act very angelic sometimes).

Yay! I went to Melanie's after my Dad's birthday party, and started AND finished my Dad's Father's Day card. Made the one in the May card kit and got to play with Dazzles. Oh my, they are sooooo cool!

Nan, I would love to see some of your kitty creations! Melanie and I are both cat lovers. She has one cat, and we have three at my house. Kitties are great!

I made all these this evening. The cowboy and monkey were colored prior, testing my newly discovered (but old) bic markers. The Dad cowboy I used paper from dots and stripes pack. The one with the red bow was just a card from the classic card pack using all HOTP stuff (except the paper). These were VERY quick cards done in the last hour, so not a lot of embelli's. Oh well LOL

Great cards Angela! Love the paper on the first one. What is the ribbon you used on the middle one? I've never seen any like it, and would love to buy some.

I love your cards Angela! You sure were productive! I especially like the first one (love that rose paper, where did you get that?)

I wasn't very productive, but when Heather was over this afternoon, I finished two masculine birthday cards that were the same design. I need to take a pic to post.

Thanks all!!!!

The rose paper is from the card pack - classic cards at HOTP. I wasn't sure about it, but DH loved that one. I have finished two more but DH is standing behind me right this sec waiting to get on again, so I will post later.

Flower soft is sold in small tubs and look like tiny flowers when you dip a glued metallic strip into them.

Here's their USA website Flower Soft (http://www.flower-soft.us.com/)

Oh my goodness, I don't know how you get all those cards made in that little time. It takes me days to get a card made. I think I play to much while I'm trying to make the card.

Love all the cards and certainly love the dazzles.

It usually takes me more time too- but now that we are down to only one computer, DH plays on mine while I make cards. Leaves the card making a little more focused. Not sure if that's good or not. I do NOT like not having access to my computer while I play with my cards :)

05-25-2009, 08:15 AM
I can't wait to see what you do with those Dazzles! Good! Be very creative! I will creatively and guiltlessly lift all your Dazzling ideas :D

A Father's Day card? It's a good thing I don't try to do cards. I got lost in the baby pages and I still have my St. Patrick's Day corned beef waiting around to be immortalized!

Angela, those cards of yours are going to grow into scrapbook pages and somehow find themselves in my Garden of Harvested Pearls.

I hope everyone who usually goes to work on Mondays and has today off because of a holiday will make the most of it :)

heres a couple of ATC's I've done this weekend for my FIRST swaps.......

you can't see in the picture but they're both very blingy - shiney - using glimmer mists and sakura glitter gel pens - really scrummy - would have loved to have kept them myself for my cheque book album, but had made them for two lovely ladies who wanted to swap with me ! I'm so excited cos I've never done anything like this before. YOU people have given me a lot of confidence with regards my crafting and I really want to thank you for that.

Gilly, your ATCs are fab! You are just amazing turing out such wonderful stuff! What is the bling on the flower card? Are they little rhinestones, or something else?

cantstopstampin
05-25-2009, 04:11 PM
thank you for your comments heather - yep little rhinestones - self adhesive ones, I spray everything with glitzy stuff, or shiney stuff, or add rhinestones or glitter or glittery gel pens etc.

Do you have Twinkling H2O's over there? I think I might have a 10 minute play with mine on some glossy card - they come out lovely and shiney.

AND today on one of the crafting channels on TV they were demo'ing 'Precious Metal Colour Paints' by Viva - don't know if you can get them over there either (probably that we have them over here fro the states) which is quite usual, you get all the lovely scrummy scrumptious stuff way before we see it.

Can you tell I'm a bit envious 'wub'.

Heather

Heather they come in little pots and are actually watercolors. Depending on what size brush you use, you can color broad bands like Gilly's or you can paint with them like you would watercolors.

You can go to their website and I think they have a demo on how they used them.

I own some but haven't really used them yet. Guess I'll get them out.

Yes! They are very saturated colors and they have hundreds of them.

They are very shimmery. Luminarte announced they were shutting down because of the economic situation back in February: they've been so swamped by orders that they decided to keep the venture going. So good news as there isn't something on the market that compares to them for the amount of pica pigment they use.

I didn't rush and stock up like mad on their paints and I'm glad I kept my cool now ! LOL

Happy belated birthday from here too!

LOVE all the cards y'all have posted -- such gorgeous work you guys are doing...And Gilly love those ATC's - I am really quite fond of the little projects like that, mini-albums etc.

On the Twinkling H2O's...Fab mentioned Luminarte was closing it's doors but now announced they are staying in biz after all...but if you want some, they are leaving their "going out of biz 40% off price" in place until June 14, after that orders will be back at regular price...
