What do you think is the best way to store your papers, Horizontally or Vertically?
What is the way that you actually store your papers?
Does your work surface allow for Vertical storage?
If your papers are stored Horizontally, does it matter if the lid/cover is tight-fitting or not?
Does it matter if the storage is stackable?
Any comments or ideas on storing precious papers?

I have tons of paper but tend to store the HOTP cardmakers pads horizontally whilst I keep all the 12X12 vertically in cropper hopper holders. I also have a couple of 12X12 boxes but find it a pain to go through the papers, the vertical option works for me but may not be suitable for everyone. And if some pads or other papers get dog eared (it happens) I don't stress but know I can use the paper in some other ways ! Life is too short to fret ! LOL

I store my papers horizontal. All of them are in categories: solid, circles, squares, stripes, flower and other. I got my holder at a scrapbook store. I asked her if she had what I was looking for and she said that she had two of these wire racks that she didn't like because they were too tall for her store and she couldn't see the customers over them. I got them both for $50. I keep my Holiday and themed paper separate, along with my card pack papers from HOTP. My scrap paper is put into drawers by color. I have been trying really hard to use it up before going into my other stash. Double sided paper stays in its pack because often the back is different color than front and I can use the same ones in the pack together. All of my books are even put in order. I lable them with a letter of the alphabet and that way if I find something I like or want a reference, I just put the letter and pg number. For example, my paper foldig book is labled with a "M" and I love the card on pg 50- I will just reference for later M50-- Bad I know, my husband calls me a nerd all the time! I love that everything is in its place.

I store both my 8.5 x 11 and 12 x 12 horizontally. I use the modular storage system by Jetmax for my 12 x 12 and the one by Fellowes for my 8.5 x 11.

I like the clear Cropper Hopper storage containers. I saw some storage containers on QVC that I'd kill my one boss for. They stacked one on top of the other. Had a place for labels & even had a couple of divide ones for brads & small things. I think one would even have worked for flowers. Of course, no matter how I store my papers I can never find the ones I want when I'm looking for them. I swear they hide on me. Judi

I've been wanting that first paper holder you have there in your pictures for so long. I think the maker is Cropper Hopper for that too. I just love the different coloured drawers.

My papers are mainly in books or pads and are stored vertical in bookcase shelves. I am fortunate to have a few shelves that are deep and tall enough for 12x12 paper. My loose 12x12 papers are stored vertically in large plastic envelopes. My loose 8.5x11 cardstock is stored in a large magazine holder and my loose 8.5x11 printed papers are stored in file folders by category in portable plastic file boxes.

Honestly Fab, I wouldn't get it. I love it because I have it and it's colorful, but the drawers do not hold much weight and if you like I even think one is not on track, which happens all the time. They go back on, but it's annoying- and they stick a little. I'm not sure if anything else would compare for the storage aspect, and I son't get rid of mine-but...

So we need to file it under the nice to look at but not practical category ! LOL :D

I use the Paper Storage Cube system by Scrapbook Solutions which has all of my papers horizontally. I absolutely love it. It seems on my desk and I have easy access to all my papers.

I store mine a couple of ways.
http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo141/sherribenson1/IMG_1770.jpg
These are magazine racks I got from the Container Store. My are sorted by Card Stock then pattern paper by color. These racks are also big enough to hold the 12 x 12 paper packs.
If I'm working on a project, I pull the papers, embellishments and plans and store them in a clear storage box.
http://i370.photobucket.com/albums/oo141/sherribenson1/IMG_1774.jpg
They are under the table on the left hand side. This keeps everything for that particular project contained in one area and I can easily clean up or tuck away even though I didn't finish them.
Then I keep some speciality papers, stored horizontally in a jet max cube. This keeps papers that are more delicate (vellum) or thicker (Bristol or watercolor paper) from getting torn up or mangled.

It is all a matter of perference, but once you figure out what you like, it makes all the difference in the world. I've tried several different ways and could never find anything, but for some reason I have to see it or I forget I have it.

Mine is a mix. I store my patterned papers horizontally in drawers by color. I got plastic stackable drawers from Fred Meyers that come in sets of 3 drawers each (see picture). My solid papers are stored in smaller plastic containers that hold the paper vertically. (I'd show a picture of these too, but they are currently scattered all over the floor while I match colors for the scrapbook I'm working on! :o)
One of the things I like about storing my paper this way is that I can easily pull a drawer or container and take it to my workspace. With the horizontal drawers, I can even pick up a set of 3 drawers and move it easily.

And I miss Fred Meyers. There isn't any store like it here on the East coast:(

Cheryl's storage is like what I'm trying to switch over too. I pick them up sometimes at Hobby Lobby with a coupon. It's just taking me awhile.

Thanks for the compliament but I had to do something. My DH and I were sharing one room and it drove me crazy. I took over another bedroom and researched for months to figure out what I wanted and needed. This has worked out really well.....the only problem is any guest that comes over has to sleep on the couch or an air mattress.
We don't have many guest.

What do you think is the best way to store your papers, Horizontally or Vertically? Horizontally. I'm to afraid of the papers bending and curling and not being able to use them after.
What is the way that you actually store your papers? Horizontally. I use the Jetmax storage cubes.
Does your work surface allow for Vertical storage? Yes. I have a scrap table then I make a storage unit out of mulitple Jetmax cubes. Works great for me and everything is in reach
If your papers are stored Horizontally, does it matter if the lid/cover is tight-fitting or not? My paper is stored on shelves so there is no lid/cover to worry about.
Does it matter if the storage is stackable? I like stackable which is why I went with Jetmax. For me it makes for better organizing.
Any comments or ideas on storing precious papers? Depending on where your scrap area is. Mine is in the corner of my bedroom. I use the Jetmax cubes and I have the paper off the floor.
Hope some of this helps.

Thanks Love2!

Mine are in square plastic containers with lids - paper is horizonal, and containers stack on top of each other. I have separate drawers for "books"/"themes" and kits, and another drawer for cardstock/solid colors. Have to take a picture and post but I think Mike left the camera on the boat!
