My sister and I have been wondering how to keep your cards from "warping" when you cover the card base with patterned paper. We use glue sticks to attach the paper to the card base, and it seems they always warp. Is there a better way to do it?

I probably use too much glue stick, but have found that if I don't use enough my pieces of paper can start to fall off. :(
I use Avery Glue Stick.
Heather has used the store brand glue stick from Dollar Tree and it wouldn't even stick.

I use Glue Glider Pro or a tape runner and I have also used tacky tape. What I use depends a lot on how heavy things are. I also use Zig two way. These adhesives seems to do a better job at keeping things glued and I haven't notice mine wrapping.
Hope this helps!

I use photo squares in the corners mostly. But I also have a "Tape -n- Roller plus" tape runner. I use that the most. I love it! The adhesive is extremely strong.

I use Glue Glider Pro
Is this the one that is now sold in Hobby Lobby? I am wondering how this works in comparson to the ATG. I like how the ATG ends the adhesive, and was wondering if the Glue Glider did the same. On the ATG you let go of the trigger when you want to end the adhesive, and then continue to pull it in the same direction you already were. I know some of the tape runners you have to use a special "flick of the wrist" movement to end. Is the Glue Glider like that?

I tend to use double sided tape around the edges, and then cover the tape and the centre with glue stick. The glue stick makes the tape repositionable for a moment but doesn't stop the fastness of the DST. I find that glue stick isn't as permanent as I like, especially if the card is put up somewhere warm.

I live in Canada and use UHU stic gluesticks. They work great on cards. It is a fairly dry glue and doesn't warp. I buy at Staples.
I like to use photo corners or the xyron machine. Karen

I have found that glue sticks just dont hold up. So I used tape runners (Tombow, Scotch, or Thermo Web) until I bought an ATG gun. It's awesome! and the refills are cheaper than the tape runner refills.

Well I got brave and broke out my ATG and filled it. I love it! So now my cards will not be warping. Thanks for giving me the incentive to use it finally! lol

I use sticky dots Thermoweb or micro dots Stix2.
Also you can 'cure' the card after you've applied the glue and you cover it with paper and trimmed it....just put the card under your craftmat the weight of it will keep it flat whilst it dries. Don't do like I used to and forget the card underneath the mat though ! :D

I use adhesive that draftsmen use.......it comes on an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet and you press your card against it and lift it off, then attach what you want to adhere...make sure you press it down firmly with a roller......then lay a heavy object on it for about 20min.....the card should stay completely flat

I have had the same problem at times with glue sticks. Warped cards and things falling off the cards. I bought at my local Wal-Mart in the craft section "Pioneer Extra Strong" glue sticks. This seems to work for me. Sometimes you have to wait till the glue drys and then your warped card will smooth out. I also us double sided tape for the heavier things. Hope this helps. ~Sandra~

Unfortunately, after I wrote this the ProGlider - repositional tape has given me nothing but trouble. I didn't have any trouble with the permanent tape. I'm actually thinking about geting the ATG, the cost for tape is less expensive than the ProGlider. I try to buy it when HL runs the 40% coupons but even then I think it is expensive.

Try the ATG- the tape sticks and doesn't come undone over time. Everyone is always asking what I use because it's so sticky. Very easy to use. The gun itself is huge, but very easy to use and well worth the awkwardness.

"Yes" Paste is really good and is designed for lightweight or heavy papers and won't wrinkle your paper. It comes in a plastic jar and you brush it on. A jar runs about $10 but it lasts forever and is pretty inexpensive. For ease, I use a lot of Scotch Brand double sided tape...I buy it in bulk packages at one of the wholesale stores and it's a lot cheaper than the craft stores.

I do use the grey Pritt gluestick, but I have also a tiny stip of double sided tape somewhere in the middle of the paper. Smal things I use gluedots or Pritt gell. This way All things stay on the card, even if the gluestick may get lose...

Since I posted this thread I got brave and pulled out my ATG. It always intimidated me due to the size, but I cannot believe how easy it is! My problem now is remembering once I place my paper down, it's down! LOL No moving it around like with the glue stick.

Or, just putting it down very lightly first-- it's a learning curve, glad you like your ATG just as much as I do.

Fab,that is exactly what I have done with some of my cards.I glue on my paper and then weight it down with a book. After a few hours it is cured as you said and not warped.Don't you all just love these time saving tips!?!?
:D I sure do!!! ~Sandra~

Maybe it's just me... I have tried placing the glued card under a pile of book to "cure" and even left it there for about a month (wasn't making any cards at that time). But it's still very warped. Oh well. :o At least most of my don't look that way! :)
I will have to try my sister's ATG, although it looks just too big for me to handle.
Thanks for all the input on this subject! :D

I used to be a glue sticker - preferring Uhu to all others I had tried - and admittedly I still think Uhu holds chipboard better than anything I've tried. But when it comes to adhering paper to paper - I've been using the Glue Glider Pro for about 7 months now and am VERY impressed with it. Make sure you use the PERMANENT adhesive. In terms of adhesion quality, the Glue Glider Pro is in every way as good as the ATG. The Glue Glider Pro is also lighter in weight which can be areal plus for older folks. It's easier to use - no learning curve. Easier to take to crops. The only gripe I have with Glue Glider Pro is the cost of the refills. OUCH A WHOPPING budget-buster $7.99. [/I]Best of both worlds - get an ATG for home, and a Glue Glider Pro for the "road" :D
Don't forget to try the spray adhesives for large areas. I find they work pretty good.
