Hey guys, I've started working on my heritage albums and I've been playing around with different ways of aging/distressing my paper. I love the Tim Holtz Distressed Inks, and have applied them using stamps, dtp, cotton balls, and cosmetic sponges. I've also tried masking, sanding, and for the first time ever, I wadded up my paper. After spending years making sure my paper was stored so it would stay smooth and flat, this was really hard, but I love the wrinkled effect. Anyway, I was just wondering what are your favorite techniques and tools for distressing?

Looks like you hit on most of them that I use.

What about tearing the edges of your paper? After that you can also curl them to have curled edges.

Is there a tool that will curl the edges?

The instructions I've seen for doing this they just use the end of a paint brush. You know, the skinny ones like what would be in a paint-by-number kit. You just gently roll it around the handle a bit.

Well, what I was thinking about is more like folding than really curling, just using your fingers to turn the torn paper edge back on itself about 1/16" to 1/8", noting that you do it in sections and where you fold the section over it tears a little bit. Does this make sense? But either way would work, depending on the look you want to acheive.

Thanks ladies. I'll have to try curling tomorrow if I get a chance.

I like tearing, inking the edges and crumpling up the paper. Oh! I also like sanding and taking my scissors to the edges of the paper. That looks so cool.

Thanks for that hint Melanie I was wondering how the curling was done also, I love tearing and inking the edges to get a different look. I have also used the core color paper which gives a great effect when tearing.

The bronze glimmer paper that Paper Wishes carries also gives that effect, as it has a black core. Love playing with that color!
