New to the enveloper (just got it)
I want to make an envelope for a 5" x 7" card . . . what size square do I start with and what lines do I use?
I've tried several and they each come out wrong! Any help would be appreciated!

Dee, great husband you have there. I love my enveloper & am still figuring it out. I have envelope templates from QVC that I've been using but like the enveloper better. Glad you found the right one to use. Judi

I have a question ... when you make your own envelopes, do you use any particular paper? I wouldn't think card stock would be flexible enough, so just the lighter weight papers? help ... Rose

I use regular printer paper or more often lightweight patterned paper. As I wrote in the tips last weekend, I have a pile of papers that I know I won't use, so I find a coordinating color and make the envelope with that with the pattern on the inside of the envelope.
Hope this helps! I really like using my Enveloper, hope you do to.

I have found this link (http://www.crafterscompanion.com/instructions/EnveloperCustomSizeChart.pdf) to be invaluable. It is a pdf document with a listing for all different sizes of envelopes and how to make them with the enveloper. I printed it up and laminated it and keep it handy.
I have a variety of plain and marbled colors of paper that I bought by the ream. They work GREAT for envelopes. I usually make envelopes for the older 4 1/2" x 6 1/4" size of PW cards (the ones where Mom's warehouse sells them really cheap:D) For them I start with a piece of paper that is 8 1/2" square, so it is really easy to just trim a bit from a standard piece of paper.
Craftyrose, I agree that cardstock would be a bit heavy for most things. You could certainly USE it to make envelopes and it might be great for something with more dimensional embellishments. It would certainly cost more to mail, though.

Thanks pennyd and and Cheryl for your helpful ideas. I used to buy envelopes at a little shop called the Paper Zone, and they closed their doors ... I guess rent was too high. I have made envelopes with Halloween papers, for the little ones I babysat ... coordinating the papers on the cards, and yes putting the print inside. I have a little envelope template by Judi Kins, that my daughter gave me ages ago. You have to fuss with it to make more than one size. Now that I am looking at it closer, it says great for use with: Magazine pages - Gift wrap - Sunday Comics - Handmade papers - maps . Can you believe I never read that. Interesting paper suggestions, eh?

I have made dozens of envelopes with old calenders. They are nice heavy paper that folds well. You have to use a label on them usually because there is printing on both sides but it makes truly beautiful envelopes and I always seem to have lots of old calenders because i hate to throw them away when they are so pretty.

What a great idea Robin! I keep calendars too, thinking I might need the info written on them someday...which I have never needed! LOL
