I am currently working on a 12 x 12 scrapbook for Bob commemorating his tour in Iraq. His dad is getting up in age and I would like to have a copy made and bound in book form for him. I have found a place online to do the actual bookmaking - however I need to find somewhere to have the 12 x 12 pages reduced to 8.5 x 8.5 so that I can scan and email them to the book company. Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, comments???? I have emailed Staples and a privately owned printing company but have not heard back yet. Just want to get some other options if these don't pan out.
Have a great weekend everyone!!! Went to Great American Scrapbook Convention in Virginia yesterday - got lots of cool papers!!!
Dee:rolleyes:

Question. If you are going to scan the pages to make a book, couldn't you scan the 12 x 12 and just resize to 8.5 x 8.5? While my scanner isn't 12" wide, it does have the ability to "stitch" together 2 scans into one and you can not tell where it is stitched. It would be a lot of work but when done you would have all your pages ready to go.
I know there are software programs that stitch together pics, too. You can use them to make panoramic pictures that are really neat.

I think you are all so clever on your computers, scanners and other equipment, I have learned such a lot on my computer since doing scrapping and being on various sites, but I am still RUBBISH at most things on the computer and with NEW technology.

I would actually call or visit Staples (or other such place) instead of waiting for an email. You would probably get a much faster answer I would think. I hope you can get done what you need, and your book turns out well! :)

I do the "scan and stitch" method all the time. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0.
1. From the "Import" menu, choose "From Scanner...". Scan the first section (I use 300 dpi) and "Save As" whatever you want. Scrapbook page pt 1, if you like, and close.
2. Repeat with remaining section that did not fit on the scanner. Scrapbook page pt 2, and close the picture.
3. From "File" menu, choose New..., then Photomerge. You'll be prompted to choose the pictures you want to merge.
4. A screen will open up where you'll drag them to fit together.
5. Make any changes in lighting, color, and size, then Save As and Close.
That's all there is to it!

Wow!! you are all so computer savvy... I wish I knew more on how to work on my computer...
I undertook a project about 4 years ago... My hubby has 9 brothers and sisters and we were hosting a family reunion. I took one of those small photo holders ( the kind you purchase from your local dollar store) that holds the 4 X 6 photos and I made a memory book about their Mom who had passed away... I took cardstock and made small "scrapbook pages" instead of photos. I wrote to each and asked them to send me their favorite memory of their mom and included that. When the book was done I made scans for all the siblings... my hubby kept the original.. needless to say, there were tears for a while!!
Good luck on your project. I know it will be treasured.
God bless
Nyoka

I am computer savvy but I am going to tell you a story why...
I went back to college when I was 35 years old to get a degree in Medical Technology (Lab Science). I never even took High School Chemistry! One of the classes I had to take was a Computer class. I had never even seen a computer up close. The instructor was a Grad student from India and he had a charming accent... until he tried to teach us. He would tell us to "move our cruiser" and it took about 3 classes before anyone figured out that he meant the cursor. He called me Batricia the whole semester because the letter P doesn't exist in India and he couldn't pronounce it. (At least he didn't try to call me by nickname. I really cringe at the thought of being called Batty!) One thing that did happen is that I fell in love with learning about how to use the dang things and since I had to learn so much of it on my own (cause I couldn't understand half of what the instructor was saying) I realized that I COULD learn this on my own and did.
I also self taught myself to build the things, too. I have built about 14 computers, have 5 in my house and each of my kids has a mom-built computer. Anyone can learn to use the things with patience and determination. I often teach computer classes to seniors for fun. They love learning how to use them and are often so amazed how easy it really is after you know where to start.
Any time you want to know how to do something (or if it can be done) on a computer... ask. That is how I learned so much of what I know. I was once unable to "move my cruiser".

Nyoka, what a great project. I'm hoping to inlcude memories and stories from family members for the heritage scrapbooks I'm currently making. You need to post a few pages. I would love to see them.

When it comes to using a computer, I've learned more from messing something up and then having to figure out how to correct it than anything I've learned in a class, and I have a minor in information systems.

Heather, don't sell yourself short! How many things have you taught me about the computer?

See, you can and do learn more all the time!
I just want to figure out how to turn on my TV, Reciever and DVD player and turn them back off again with less than 4 remotes. Even the math says I should be able to do it with 3 remotes but nope, need 4.

It can be done, Patty. You just need to talk to my dh. We have one remote that we use for the tv, receiver, sat receiver, ps3, and to turn the wii off and on. I'm not sure how much it cost. My dh told me I didn't want to know. I can get the info for you if you want.

Oh, I know that I can buy a universal remote that will do it all (usually over 2 hundred dollars) but each of these pieces of equipment came with remotes that are supposed to handle others equipment. They just usually can't really do them all. My PS3 remote actually does quite a bit but nothing works with the Harmon Kardon receiver except its own remote.... except turning it OFF. How stupid is that? My TIVO remote turns it off but won't turn it on and the TV remote works the PS3 but not the TIVO. So until I am willing to get a Universal that is GUARANTEED to work with all of them, I am actually quite fast at using all the remotes...... It's a gift, I know.

I use to have 5 or 6 computers to build on the go ! LOL
So I understand how you feel ! I got the computer bug too so I've reached new levels of geekiness. Now that I have a Mac I just enjoy being productive with computers instead of fixing them all the time. Mind you it didn't stop me testing Windows 7 under virtualisation software and it seems Redmond has woken up to making stable OS until some third parties software trip Win7 up.
So Patty have you learnt how the Bios beep when it posts ??? wink ;)

Gosh - wish I would have known when I spent over 4 hours between yesterday and today trying to install my Linksys wireless router to connect my other computer in my scraproom. After 2 technogeeks (my son and my son-in-law) tried to help - even they threw their hands up in wonderment. Come to find out - it was my crappy Compaq that was the problem - - OUT it went and I ordered a new Dell laptop. Funny thing was, it was connected to my Linksys and working fine until my Linksys died and got a new replacement. This was supposed to be just a very simple re-connect. Makes me mad we all spent so much time on a dead Fred when I could have been making cards!!! :( I wanted a pink one - but dh wouldn't hear of it. :(

I just recently got Vista, but am looking forward to Windows 7- It seems to have got a more positive response- and I heard that if you buy a computer between now and when it's released, you get the upgrade free. Hmmm, sounds like a great excuse for a new computer :D

I know most of the beeps by heart! That single beep is the best sound ever when you boot the first time.
How long have you had the Mac, Fab? My cousin has one and I got a chance to spend some time with it last year. They are fun but you can't really build your own and sorry, PC's just kick their behinds in power and software choices. Besides, how would I keep up my skills in troubleshooting with a system that never crashes.... what fun would that be?:D
Back to crafting... I'm going to post what I did today soon as I scan them. I had a pretty creative day in between loads of laundry!
