Just 'talking' on another forum I frequent - and someone had said 'what is the most unusual item you've scrapped'?

Well, you may know me by now peeps, that I salvage quite a few bits and pieces and use household items on my scrapping and try not to waste anything etc.

So I got thinking what I had scrapped and came up with 'REAL LEAVES' on this one - I apologise if I've shown it before - but the leaves are still going strong 12 months on - although I don't think I could take it out of the protective sleeve.

So, show us some of your most unusual or salvaged items - it might give me a few more ideas too.

'method in my madness'.

THANKS

Gilly

Some of the more unusual items I've actually scrapped was real tree bark, real leaves, real pine needles (all of those are already posted on here sometime way back when) I've also used discarded window screens (for a customer), real chicken wire, small square metal fencing (again, for another customer I cannot post for privacy as most people would actually RECOGNIZE this famous person), the top plastic (and or metal) piece from a an old floppy disk (gee- remember those? they make totally cool tabs with built-in windows!) an actual floppy disk (stamped with paint), an engraved brass corner from a piece of furniture I found on the sidewalk (that also is posted on one of my album pages here) and goodness knows all the things I've forgotton. I LOVE to use found items. Good thread Gilly - and I'd never get tired of seeing your leaves! :D

The most unusual item I will be scrapping is a piece of camo-netting that is being sent to me from Iraq. It is winging it's way here as we speak and I am very excited about it.

I scrapped a large seed pod that to my eye looks like a hummingbird! I've also scrapped the wrapper from the breakfast burrito I have every morning, and have used the lid from my favorite yogurt as a tab!

Well, I've used some old boxes and plastics and I had to take the E6000 to my husband's gear shift knob on his truck.....I'm thinking anything I've used glue on must be counted....right?

I love stamping and embossing on aluminum foil. I use glass paint to color the stamp in.

I used the cute little vellum envelopes for baby hair, and I've put actual hospital wristbands on my pages (I had to be careful with those because they're made out of plastic). Other odds and ends that wind up on my pages are remnants of my DH's baby blankie, trinkets my kids have picked up in their travels, old buttons and lace, of course, and a pair of 3D glasses (don't ask).

Karenliz, I don't do much stamping, but will have to try your technique. I use foil quite a bit for embossed texture borders, though.

I have a picture and tutorial on my blog under "scrapbooking", but will be posting a video tutorial on how to make one over the weekend. I would love to see the seed pod "hummingbird" that you made. Bet it was cool!

ah thanks everyone. Torrential rain here - forages! but much better than the heat of the last 5 days or so - trouble is the drains overflow round here and then we are left with a dreadful smell in the air.

Still I can cope with that, I can't cope with the dreadful heat.

We have Two viewings on our property today - so better go and finish off tidying and cleaning - and I have two reflexology treatments to do this morning.

Speak later.

I'll look through my stash of cards to see if I have any left using aluminum foil. I usually make two cards the same and keep one but lately I've been using my extra stash of cards. Glass paints take time to dry so when I make these cards they are for special occasions.

Here are some instructions ....

A few things to know ---- For your first try, use a stamp that would be easy to color in. A stamp that doesn't have an intricate design. I use mostly black embossing powder because once painted it almosts looks like stained glass. I use the shiny side of the foil with no wrinkles or creases. Use the glass paints that come in bottles with pointy tips so it's easy to add color where you want it. When you start using the paint, it's best if you put the foil on something you can move so the paint can dry. You don't want to pick up the foil and move it because it will cause bubbles in the paint.

Stamp and emboss on the alumimum foil. Let it cool completely before you start with the paint.

Slowing add one drop at a time of glass paint. Have a pin handy for bubbles. If you don't pop the bubbles, the paint will crack once it's dry when you start moving it around. You don't need a lot of paint. You don't want it to overflow into other areas on the image.

Once you're all finished with the paint move it to the side and let it dry overnight. If it's hot and humid in the house, it may take longer to dry.

That's it. The hardest part is bubbles in the paint and waiting for it to dry.

I'm sure I have one somewhere. I'll post it soon.

K2, from reading your latest Talent is Optional newsletter, you just might get away with blaming it on the cat. Love your Henry stories. Have 4 kitties myself so I know how they cling to me when I get home. Will have to try this idea out also.

It's definitely on my "to do" list! However, that list is SOOOOO long it will probably be a long time before it makes it to the top of the list. :(

This weekend I DID, however, finish the 2nd album in a set of FIVE 12 x 12 albums about our trip to Australia and New Zealand. The first album was about New Zealand, this one was about Tasmania. Now on to the third . . . Sydney!
