View Full Version : I survived first day of school
While many of you are packing your darlings off to school, I went back to my classroom. Today was the first day with students. I have moved to a small town school after 20 years of inner-city, city and suburban schools. The day went so well, I'm scared.
I think I need more scrapbooking stuff to stay on even keel.....

MSki, what grade do you teach? I'n sure that the rest of the school year will be just as great as today. But just in case, may be you should get more stuff for scrapbooking. Its always best to have more. Judi

Put some pretty scrapbooking stuff in your desk drawer that you can look at when no one is watching to get you thru the day! (it will be our little secret!)

And, some of our teachers have their students "scrapbook" what they did over the summer - get them addicted early!

I've been retired for about 2 years now. It still seems strange not to be rushing around re-arranging my room and making plans for the new school year. I miss working with the children, but not the endless red tape. It does mean I have more time for cards, however!

The sooner the better ! ;)
Here the kids go back to school Monday (8/24). And I think some parts of Texas they have already started back - we have a few places that have year-round school also.
Mary, I'm thinking a small-town school might be a hair less stressful than an inner city school...but guess even that might not be true nowadays. Love Dee's idea of hooking them early by having them scrapbook their vacation days!
I teach HS math. I've tried doing some scrapbooking in Geometry and even tried a scrapbooking club at one school. I like the idea of putting a few things in my drawer. I may have to scrap some frames and put up pics of the grandbabies in the room.
Halfway through today and so far still good. Scary, but I'm not complaining.
Fab, I used to start after Labor Day (1st Monday in Sept) as a kid, but we got out the 8th of June. Now they start earlier but we get out around the 20th of May. It's a trade off.

My kids are finishing up their 2nd week of school, and like Mary, we'll be out by mid May. We usually plan our vacations for the last 2 weeks of May while most of the country is still in school. The crowds are light and the temps aren't too bad, so it works great for us.
Mary, I'm glad your off to a great start. HS math has to be one of the most difficult subjects to teach. I'm sure I wouldn't have the patience needed.

Fab, the kids here in PA go back Aug.31st. I give teachers a big thumbs up. You have such a hard job trying to reach kids who would much rather be some where else. Then there are the truly gifted kids who make it all worth while. Hope you have a great bunch of kids. Judi
