Just trying to get back into crafting.

Nearly finished my card for September swap and hopefully will send it tomorrow for Lovinggran3. I've got a few birthday cards to make too...

I seem to get tired so easily it's not even funny anymore. I get stressed very quickly too...am I getting old too quickly ? LOL I also noticed in the past two weeks that I forget names and stuff I'm supposed to do.

I feel much better the trip to my MIL cheered me up despite the pain of travelling. I'm glad I did.

I'm waiting for my new SU catalogues on Monday, they attempted delivering them on Friday but I wasn't there so hopefully they won't miss me this time.

Just chilling at the moment with proper tea brewed in a teapot and lemon ! :)

Glad to see you all are getting organized. In the midst of "haul everything Christmas out for card-making" - I got a special order from a lady recooperating from H1N1 for a special baby shower momento mini album and a custom card. So now on top of all my stacks of Christmas paper, I've not new stacks of pink paper and ribbon everywhere. I suppose I'll be joining all of you in re-organizing as soon as I can clear a path INTO MY SCRAPBOOK ROOM!!!!

I spent 7 1/2 hours yesterday making cards at a class. We were supposed to make 25 and a box to hold them, but ended up making 23. It was a blast!!! I'm going to work on making another box and set using my stash (which is 99% HOTP) for a charity auction. Because the cards I made yesterday aren't HOTP, I will put them on my blog over the next few days.

The bad news is my 3 week sort-of vacation is over and I'm going to be working 3 days a day going forward. :( It's only for 20 hours a week, but all I can think is how much it cuts into my crafting time! Good thing I love what I do almost as much as crafting. If I could only make a living doing stuff with paper!

Stress and having too much "going on" will cause temporary memory loss, without factoring in the fact that we are all getting older each day. I hope your trip helped ease some of your stress! I'm looking forward to receiving your card. Thank you!

I am missing my crafting so much! I hope when we get Melanie settled in at her friends house we will be able to craft with her a little. Not sure if it will wok or not, but I'm hoping so. Still no word if she's being released today yet.

I'm waiting on my internet repairman. I've had very little time on the internet during this last week. It's working this morning, but didn't yesterday until about 1am. After he leaves, I intend to begin making Oct. birthday cards.

Is anyone else having trouble posting? Once last night and now once, I've typed my message, posted it as usual, but it did not post! Maybe ir's related to my internet trouble. I'm waiting now for the repairman to check it out. After he leaves, I'm planning to begin on my Oct. birthday cards. We'll see what Cody is planning to do. He's going to be 3 in a few days, and he thinks he's too big to nap-so naptime is pretty hectic until he dozes off!

Well, after I wrote this 2nd message, my 1st post appeared. Maybe the board is slower this morning! Sorry

What am I working on now? Too much. I want to scrap and make cards, but I'm teaching. Yesterday I drove to Kansas City (we had dinner theatre tickets last night). Got back to the lake after midnight. Up at 5:30. Will leave school at 3:30 to go back to KC. Of course the fastest route in under construction (bridge is gone). Car and doctor appts tomorrow and then drive back to the lake. Back to KC on Friday, back to the lake on Sunday. after this week maybe I can start having fun again. Oh, yeah, I have a lecture series 3 nights this week at church. I need chocolate.

I am working on so many different things right now! Usually I only have 1 or 2 projects going at a time, but not right now! I've had to bring an extra table into my craft room just to manage it all.

I'm trying to get a bunch of cards made -- for several upcoming birthdays and for a couple of anniversaries -- including my grandparent's 75th anniversary. I also like to make "Thanksgiving" cards that I send to special people, thanking them for the blessing they've been in my life this year. Then I also thought I might try my hand at some Christmas cards. I'm not likely to get that all done! (So I expect I'll have to pick and choose who I send home-made cards to this year.)

Then, I've finally decided that for my grandparents' anniversary, I will make a quick 8 x 8 album of the celebration. I want it to be small enough for her to easily handle. I picked up a maroon suede-covered album some time ago that I thought would go real well with the colors in her living room should she care to keep it there. Since I usually make 12 x 12, and don't want to exceed the 20 pages in the original album, that will be a real trick, because I also don't want to use pictures that are too small because her eyesight isn't what it used to be. I'd like to make it ahead of time except for the pictures, but that makes it hard to do things like pick colors from the pictures for the background papers, or even to know in advance what titles to make. I'm going to have to do some real creative thinking!

Then, of course, there's Christmas itself to think about! HELP!!!! :D

I am trying to get started on an album of my Dad's retirement party. I told him I would have it done for Christmas. Knowing myself, I will be working on it 5 minutes before we head to their house on Christmas day!:D But I work well under pressure! My only problem is that I am still waiting on pictures from one of the people who said they would get them to me. I had an unfortuneate battery failure in my camera the evening of the party , so I had to depend on others to get photos! RIght now, I am typing all the cards that people filled out with Memories and Wishes. Some of the are not too legible  and I need to consult with my mom, because I am not sure who some of the people are.

that'll be a wonderful album for your dad........................

I have no photo's of my parents or family etc. It is so sad that I have no memories in that way - only in my head.

I am working on relaxing tonight ! It's been a hectic weekend AGAIN.. I did do some ATC's (surprise surprise 'blush') yesterday and got them in the post for swaps that I was in. FORGOT to photograph them though.

I am also working on an album - just a mini one of my move from my large house to this one and then the other move in a few weeks time to our permanent home....................my DS moved out too with his girlfriend, so the last 3 months has been full on - hectic, manic.

Will let you see my little album when it is finished.

Oh, boy! I'm making a committment to myself and everyone on this board to make a scrapbook for Cody (will be 3 on Friday) before my new granddaughter is born the week of Thanksgiving. I discovered my love for creating cards just before Cody was born and have neglected his scrapbook. Ryan and Sierra have huge scrapbooks, but nothing since I discovered cards! I'm asking you all to keep me accountable with this task, please!!!
I am making a committment to make a card for Savannah, as well. Maybe, I can put it together before she is born, and will only need to add photos. I'm going to purchase the almost done kits for both of them.
Fortunately, all of my Christmas cards have been made due to this board and the webisodes! However, I just purchased Susan's Journal of Paper Engineering and want to play, play, play! I did try a new technique for Melanie's birthday card tonight and hope to try a different one for Island girl tomorrow. It's a way to justify playing!

I'm at school but the weekend is scheduled to make a card for a 2nd wedding, my swap elements for this month, finish a card for the dt, photograph the card for Angela's challenge, address the Halloween cards to grandkids and great nieces & nephew. Lots of little stuff. If time I'll start on the Mix n Match. It is Heritage Days in Warsaw this weekend with all kinds of old time booths and information. A bazaar at the church and a spaghetti dinner (like I would cook anyways, ha ha). Maybe I'll win the hand made quilt or the shotgun that are being raffled off. I am getting used to the eccentricities of small town life. Also dodging deer. They have started running. (Literally). Have a good weekend everyone!

been a while since we shared 'what we are working on right now' - I've convinced my American Pen Friend - (we have been penfriends for 10 years now), someone who I'd like to have had as a sister or a friend in the UK, we hope one day to meet up - I hope that happens. Anyway, I'm hoping that she will get into papercrafting - of some sorts, she's seen my ATC's and has been introduced to PW so far, so I've been working on 10 ATC's to send over to her as a special friend in the hope that she will also take up this art? Fingers crossed.

I'm also doing a monthly 'inchies' swap on a site in UK - my little book with all the inchies in is coming along very nicely - just LOVE papercrafting.

so who's doing what?

My DH is leaving in the morning to go to Houston to help a friend rebuild his porch (which was destroyed during hurricane Ida last year)...so he'll be gone till Saturday or Sunday -- YAY...I first have to make a sympathy card, and then 22 Christmas cards for a two swaps, and a special soldier card. But what I'm ACTUALLY doing is...adding stuff to my PW cart. I have it up over $300 right now. Usually I just browse around all the goodies and add what I like to the cart, then I have to go back thru and decide what to take out so I can afford the order...oh to win the lottery...

I am trying not to spend too much right now - with the change in my job my credit card isn't as "flexible" as it used to be. I'm trying to focus on Christmas shopping. We've decided to only give each of the kids one main gift - so I am making things to supplement that. I've made a beautiful (well, I think it is beautiful) book of quotes for my DD and for my youngest son I am making a dog-bone shaped scrapbook of our dog (what else LOL). When he calls home from college, I have to put the phone to Nugget's ear so he can say hi to her. I swear she looks around for him...

I'll post the projects when I am done.

Now that my grandparent's 75th Anniversary celebration is behind us, I need to get busy scrapping the event. I want to give a scrapbook of it to my grandparents for Christmas. Yikes - that doesn't give me much time!

I want to do it in an 8x8 album so it's not too bulky for my tiny size two grandmother to handle, but I don't want to reduce picture sizes beyond 4 x 6 or she might not be able to see them! There are TONS of pictures, many of which really SHOULD be included, but I don't want to make the book too heavy by adding too many pages. Any ideas out there for how I can include a lot of pictures on 8x8 pages without reducing the size of the pictures??? Any clever layout ideas to achieve this would be greatly appreciated :D

Excellent question Cheryl, I am coming up with a blank here, and have forwarded your question on, to the supreme scrapbooker herself, Susan Cobb, to get an answer. As she is out for the holiday, I'm afraid we will need to wait for Monday for our answer. Let me know if you hear any great suggestions from our mb friends in the meantime, it is a question that has crossed my mind as well!

I know this sounds stupid but what about his & hers albums. Put copies of some pictures in both books. Have pictures that only your grandfather would enjoy & the same for your grandmother. That may use all the pictures & make some thing special for each of them. They'll share both books any way. I had a friend who did this for her parents 50th anniversary & it worked out rather well. Her mother didn't care to have pictures of fishing trips in her book. That's all I can think of. Sorry it sounds stupid. Judi

Cheryl
11-26-2009, 07:43 AM
There are no stupid ideas, Judi! Whether I use all the ideas or not, brainstorming is always valuable. Thank you for contributing your thoughts!

I'm so used to doing 12 x 12 albums -- smaller ones take more work for me. :) In this particular case, I'm already planning 2 albums. The first will have the invitation and pictures taken at the reception -- friends and family that came (here's where the number of pictures REALLY gets to be a problem), table decorations including several that were specially hand-made by family, cake (including cake top that was a special order gift from several family members), a place for their place cards that she specially saved, the gorgeous room decorations, etc. This is the book that I really need to condense as much as possible, but it will be important to them to see pictures of everyone and everything, as it was all very meaningful for them!

The 2nd book will be of the program we had at the reception. We did a slide show with live narration and I'm planning to have the narration and pictures of the slides used in it in the 2nd album. This one should be fairly straight forward.

I'm pretty sure I won't have time for 3 albums, but I keep thinking that for the first album I might be able to adapt something for 8x8 similar to what's done with the scrapbook spinner template for 12 x 12's. Whatever I'm doing, I better get it figured out soon! :D

I mentioned I was making an album of my grandparent's 75th anniversary celebration to give them for Christmas this year. I've completed it and thought you might want to see a few examples. I'm posting one picture here, and a few others are in my album. I used the PW "Wedding" 8x8 papers and they really helped me put this album together fairly quickly.

I really like the idea of "his and her" books, IrishLady! I will keep that in mind when I make one for my husband and I down the road.

My boys are really young and my oldest (3yrs old) enjoys HIS alphabet book that I made for him a year ago. I decorated each page with a letter of the alphabet, but then had atleast one picture of him with an item with that letter. So, the "A" page had apple stickers, angels, etc. and then a picture of him painting "art". He is now learning his alphabet and likes seeing his picture with each letter. I have my second son's (almost 2 yrs old) book started, but need time to fill in the pictures. Would make cute christmas gifts for nieces and nephews if I had a bit more time.

This year I focused on quilts for my boys and nephew, but I did get christmas cards made and sent out last week! whew!

I haven't done ANY crafting this month at all...all efforts have been concentrated on helping DH sort thru piles of stuff we had stored, then while on a roll went thru all my holiday decorations, then everything starting to look so nice and tidy and uncluttered I decided to finish up by going thru the closets and storage cabinets!!!

But I just looked at the calendar and realized I need to get my  in gear and make a birthday card.

Now that everything is neat & tidy, I want to get back to my genealogy albums and try to actually get some of them DONE!!

LOVE the anniversary album picture, it's really neat! And I love that idea of the alphabet scrapbook too. I'd never have thought of that!!!

I finished all but one gift card holder last night. I use Sara's Matchbook Pockets. The GC gets tucked in the very inside where it is safe and can't fall out. The layers of decorations (I use a lot of Sew Many Cards digis) mean it doesn't need an envelope and is already "wrapped".

Stress Stress and more stress.

We moved on 16th ! BUT only just. Our bank messed up big time and didn't transfer our money to the solicitors in time for our move and it was nearly all called off - but at the last minute we tracked down the money and managed to get the OK to move. It was an horrendous day on Tuesday, my eyes are only just about recovering from crying...................it's been a nightmare.

BUT we are now in our home and hopefully we can enjoy Christmas. Woke up to no water today - a burst main pipe because of how bad the weather is here - so I couldn't go food shopping for Christmas and I'm back at work on Monday.

So food shopping tomorrow and may have Tuesday afternoon off work to go get some Christmas presents. NEVER cut it so fine.

BUT not a lot to get.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas-time.

What is craft night at church. I would really be interested as I have been trying to figure out something to do like that at church. Thanks, Robin

Ours is the third Saturday of the month, from 6:30 to 8:30. Anyone who wants can come, and you just bring along what ever craft you want to work on. Tonight my son and hubby went, and they played cards. I worked on a calendar, one lady worked on her Christmas cards, another was knitting something, my cousin was working on a quilt and one just came to chat. It's basically getting together to craft and chat.

that sounds wonderful.

I have always said I would like to craft at a club - and there is one close (I believe) to where I've just moved, so I think I shall try and track it down and go after Christmas - in the new year.

Well, I'm so into scrapping lately and I plan to take tons of photos on Christmas Eve to create new layouts for my album. :)

Gosh Gilly - sounds like a VERY stressful move, and moves that go well are pretty darned stressful in my book! Glad it has all worked out! Hope you manage the Christmas shopping in time!!!

Oh Gilly I can't imagine trying to organise a move in this weather! We're just not used to it over here, tonight's temp is -8c! I'm so glad you got in before Christmas though, make it a special one in your new gaff! Definitely look into that craft club, add it to your new year's resolutions list, what a good way to find out about your new area!

It has been a great day here, DH 64th birthday so all the family has been round and we had a lovely birthday meal. The grandchildren were great and built a snowman in the garden. I have been busy collecting photos for my scrapbook. This one is of Chloe my granddaughter. Trish:)

We were snowed in for three days and my intention was to make great headway with my Navy album. :D Well, you know what they say about good intentions. I have done nothing but eat, sleep and read. It's a good thing I am not on a deadline.

Yep, selective memory and selective hearing! lol

The other day he fixed a frozen pizza and it had pepperoni and sausage on it. I told him the sausage didn't set well on my stomach, so not to get it again. He says "did you try picking off the pepperoni?" I asked him what good that would do? He still doesn't get it! Gotta love him tho! He just has his moments!

LOL!! Heather that one really hit my funny bone about the pizza!! Larry my hubby has that same selective memory as well as selective hearing.Example~Larry and a friend of his get together quite often for lunch. When Larry gets home I ask him a few questions about his visit with his friend. He has a hard time coming up with what they discussed.Mind you they are together for a few hours at times over cups and cups of coffee. You would think he could remember some of their conversation. MEN
