Default November 2009 - Johnson Family Album

Johnson Family Album
Designer: Laura Nicholas

Laura's Designer Tips: Want to add more color to your album? Use paint, but remember to remove the posts and inside pages prior to painting the album. Another option is sanding and inking the edges, which will give you a distressed look.

Supplies:

Instructions:

Cover:
  1. Remove the posts and the inside pages from the album. Paint the binding and edges of the cover, inside and out. Let the paint dry completely.
  2. Cut two strips of diamond paper to 5 1/4"x11 1/4" and ink the edges with black ink. Stamp the dot stitching around the edges and adhere inside the front and back covers.
  3. Cut two strips of striped paper to 5 1/4"x11 1/4" and ink the edges with black ink. On one strip stamp the dot stitching around three edges–leaving the edge closest to the binding blank; and adhere to the back of the album.
  4. Cut three strips of the striped paper to fit on the binding of the album. Two 1"x5 1/4" strips–for the front and back, and one 6/8"x5 1/4"-for the end. Stamp dot stitching across the top and bottom of each strip and adhere to the binding with a glue stick.
  5. Cut a strip of blue diamond paper to 1 1/2"x5 1/4" and plaid paper to 2"x5 1/4". Ink the edges with black ink and adhere together. Attach this piece over the other strip from step 3, leaving 2 3/4" of striped paper on the left side.
  6. Stamp the dot stitching along three edges and zig zag stitching along the seams. Adhere to the front of the album with a glue stick.
  7. Mat a photo with tan paper and ink the edges with black ink. Mat again with dark brown paper. Cut 3/4"-tall strip of tan paper and ink the edges with black. Stamp the family name and add the "Family" Brad Buddy™. Attach blue mini brads to the strip and adhere to the bottom of the photo with foam tape.
  8. Add the Cherish tab to the top of the photo and adhere to the front of the album. Punch out plaid brackets and adhere around the photo with foam tape. Tie a small bow of blue ribbon and adhere to one bracket with a Zot™.
  9. Cut a 5/8"x2 1/4" strip of tan paper and stamp the year. Ink the edges with brown and add mini brads. Adhere to the binding of the album with foam tape. Add the posts and pages inside the album.

Page:
  1. Cut the diamond paper to 5"x11". Cut a strip of plaid paper to 3"x11" and adhere to the bottom of the diamond paper.
  2. Cut a 1/4" strip of tan paper and ink the edges with black. Adhere across the seam of the papers, and stamp the zig zag stitching along the tan strip. Stamp the dot stitching along the edges of the page and ink with black.
  3. Mat a photo with dark brown paper. Ink edges with brown ink. Add ribbon tabs to the photo and secure with mini brads. Adhere the photo to the page with foam tape.
  4. Cut out a pocket from striped paper. Cut a 1/4" strip to hem the top of the pocket. Stamp the dash stitching to the pocket and add silver mini brads.
  5. Add the "family" "moments" and "together" punch-outs and Brad Buddy™ to the pocket and adhere to the page with foam tape. Note–add foam tape only the bottom and sides of the pocket to add the tags.
  6. Add to the journaling tag with black pen, and attach a ribbon tab with a brad. For the second tag, cut out the center of a slide mount punch-out and ink the edges with black. Adhere to tag with foam tape and finish the tag with a ribbon and a brad.

That's a cool to be able to decorate your album that way.
